I have recently been having issues with the Windows desktop app on Plex and MKV files.
When i go to play any MKV file through the Plex Windows app from my server the app starts playing then crashes and closes.
It does this for any MKV file.
Both my server and the Plex app are running the latest version.
I have transcoding disabled so they are playing via direct play.
Cleanse the installation of this player.
Uninstall it via the Apps control panel of Windows.
Open its configuration folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex and clear it out.
(Careful: don’t mix up the Plex folder with the Plex Media Server folder or you will lose all your server data!)
Download and install the latest release of Plex for Windows from below.

Thank you for replying.
I have just disabled “Use hardware decoding” on the client and now its playing.
Hopefully this was what’s causing the issues!
