first of all, a big thank you for the plex version for windows.
i am a mac user, but a mac mini only for the tv is too expensive for me.
now i am searching a cheap way to run plex on a smal pc with 1080p content.
what do you think, is a ION based pc a good solution, for example the zbox-hd-id11 ?
has the windows version of plex “hardware acceleration” ?
thanks!
plex client (playback) currently is only on mac, android and iOS devices (iphone, ipod touch, and jailbroken appleTV 2), so having a windows box hooked to your TV won’t get you any playback.
I don’t know this for sure, but i think the main reason the windows server came out is in anticipation of the upcoming LG TVs and Bluray players that will have a plex client built in. and having a mac only server would leave out a significant portion of the population.
you could run the server on your existing macs, and get an appleTV2, and jailbreak it, only set you back $99 (or $85 refurbished), or you would have to hackentosh whatever you get.
