If if you don’t want Tidal and have your own music, your scanner is horrible.
It only seems to work if you only have a few hundred albums. If you happen to have thousands, the scanner can either take forever (if you are lucky) or lock the server up - producing a server with 100% CPU use and zero access to PLEX while it does whatever it is doing. It may or may not finish. All you can do is either wait it out or kill it, roll it back and delete the audio libraries and upgrade again.
And if you aim your new Music scanner at audio books, you run into most of the same problems. You can only safely add a small number of albums or books at a time or it locks up. The response we get is mostly along the lines of “Man, it is NUTS to have that much music.” Possible. But if that is outside the capabilities of PLEX to handle reliably, then tell us. If there are work arounds like feeding it new music and books with a teaspoon, then tell us.
But as of now we have a product that just doesn’t work for many of us with lots of our OWN MEDIA - which was how this product was originally marketed. Is this just not the case anymore? What does PLEX want to be?
I would love to stay on 1.17 but I can’t because THETVDB broke and the fix is in 1.18. But 1.18 has a music scanner that has made me rebuild my music and book libraries half a dozen times in the last week and a half.
So do us a favor. FIX it. Fix the scanner so it doesn’t peg the CPU. Fix it so it doesn’t shut down access to PLEX while it does its thing. Fix it by giving us a generic music scanner much like the video scanner so we can input audio books more easier without the scanner gagging. FIX the error capabilities so it doesn’t gag in the first place and just tags it with whatever I called it and move along now and forever until I manually ask it to rescan that album.
Or come out with real support for audio books - something that people have been asking for forever but has been ignored while you guys have added more and more streaming options that cater to cord cutters who don’t have their own media.
So what is it? Do you want to be PLEX or PLUTO?
Can you spend just a little time trying to fix your base functionality before you roll out new functionality? . Because right now your product is broken for those of us with a lot of media. Either support us or tell us you dont.
