Plexamp 3.0 no Tidal shuffle

Love the new amp app! Exactly what I need most of the time - except that I can’t shuffle large Tidal playlists. The app starts to load but before the payback starts, loading is stopped and I’m returned to the playlist - same happens to the normal Plex app too (but there you can enable shuffle after you start playing normally, so no big problem there) :frowning:

How many items in this large playlist?

Didn’t do much testing, but playlists with < 500 items shuffle will work, playlists with > 1000 items shuffle won’t work.

Are you able to shuffle this playlist via Plex Web? Or does it show the same/similar behaviour?

I have the same issue (1000+ song Tidal playlist). For me the web ui, windows player (not the UWP app I don’t know about that one) and normal ios app can’t do shuffle. For the other apps I can start the playlist and then toggle shuffle after I am in the playlist. However I can’t figure out how to do that in plexamp app.

Can you long press or click on the ellipsis on the playlist in RECENT PLAYLISTS and shuffle it directly from the home page? Just curious…

Same issue with web and windows. In web there is even an error message: “payback error: error loading media”

Nope (but thanks for pointing this option out, didn’t notice it before!). Also here it just keeps loading forever and don’t revert to the previous screen as compared to shuffle from playlists view.

Just to be sure: since this doesn’t seem to be an problem of Plex AMP but rather an problem in Plex itself, should I report it somewhere else?

Where does this playlist exist? In Plex or in Tidal? i.e. is it also available in the official Tidal apps?

It’s an Tidal playlist so it exists in Tidal and is also available in Plex through Tidal integration. No problem with offline/Plex-only playlists.
Shuffle works in official Tidal app and with the described workaround (start normal then enable shuffle) in the normal Plex app (which is not possible in amp)

Looking at the playlist I have I am not certain if it’s the massive size or if it is that some of the songs that are in the tidal playlist are not available in tidal through plex (these songs can’t be downloaded through tidal’s own app either). I think the reason both of us have the issue is because when you have a big playlist you are more likely to have these undownloadable songs.

What exactly do you mean with “undownloadable”? I’m pretty sure it’s the size - the same playlist with 1000 items won’t play, deleting the half for testing-purpose and it works. both variants works flawless in the Tidal-app by the way - although halfing the list in theory reduces the chance of having an “undownloadable” song but that it works in Tidal seems to rule that out.

But if you could give an example for an “undownloadable” song it would be very easy to disprove:

  1. use a playlist with less then 500 songs (or if you are really want to be sure, just a playlist with 1 or 2 itmes) - shuffle play in Plex to confirm it’s working
  2. add the “undownloadable” song to the playlist and try to shuffle again - if it works, that’s not the problem

After playing around with it some more. The “undownloadable” song can’t be added to a new playlist as it is actually a song that the record label no longer allows to be streamed and can’t even be played in the tidal app.

Interesting thanks for the info - so those can’t be the cause of this problem if they couldn’t be added to the playlist (we are taking about Tidal playlists, so there seems to be no way how those could end up on a playlist).

You can’t add them to new playlists but they stay in any playlist that they existed in before the record label pulled them. And yes this is a tidal playlist.

Took me a while but I recently experienced this “undownloadable” songs for the first time (some songs got removed after the album has been published - strange) - but that didn’t impact the shuffle problem.
So, my guess is still that if the playlist is large, this causes the problem and it affects all Plex players…
