Plexamp 3.4.5 does not respond to media play/pause key on MacOS

Hi,

Installed the 3.4.5. update this morning and now the media play/pause key on my keyboard won’t control Plexamp. The forward and back buttons work fine!

Even weirder, sometimes when pressing the play/pause button, the Apple Music app loads. I’ve not spotted a pattern for this happening yet.

This all worked fine prior to the update. You cannot assign media keys to shortcuts in settings, so that’s not a workaround.

Running MacOS Big Sur 11.2.3 on a MBP 13-inch 2017. I’ve tried a full system reboot and having Plexamp as the only running non-system app. Same thing.

Hope this can be sorted soon!

On the list of things to look at, probably related to electron upgrade.

For now you can set a custom keybinding as well, if that’s helpful.

Hi Elan, and thanks for your reply. Can I ask what you mean by a custom keyboard binding? Do you mean assign a different hotkey for play/pause in the apps preferences? The play/pause button on the standard Mac keyboard can’t be mapped this way - I already tried.

I think he’s suggesting that you use something else until they can fix the media keys. Finding globally available shortcuts is a pain, so I think I’ll just wait it out.

Exactly. I use e.g. control + command + enter for play/pause (among other things, I find this easier to hit than the correct media key )

Might be a Big Sur problem. Not having this issue on my Mac running 10.15.7 Catalina and 3.4.5. Media keys are working here just fine, both on touchbar and external keyboard.

Interesting data point  I found the reason it wasn’t working is that we were getting double events for play/pause on macOS which were cancelling each other out. Possibly we don’t have that issue on earlier macOS.

The double-play is exactly what I’m experiencing. I can see the Play/Pause icon change and immediately switch back. Anyway, hope you can get to the bottom of it soon, thanks for being so responsive to bug reports!

Plexamp 3.4.5 on macOS Big Sur 11.3.

Any updates to this? I’ve seen this issue on an older version of OSX as well (10.13, I believe). My solution has been to lock plexamp from updating and stay with version 3.4.5.

Also, it would be great if you could make older downloads available. I would not have been able to back-date as a temporary fix if I didn’t have another mac that hadn’t yet updated Plexamp to >=3.4.6.

It’s fixed in 3.4.7
