Plexamp 3.9.0 - playback fails on Linux - Now RESOLVED

Since update to 3.9.0 I can’t get any tracks to play on Linux

All details are in this reddit post

Jan 12, 2022 16:15:04.076 [0x21bb5640] ERROR - BASS: Error initializing device -1 with sample rate 44100 and flags 00000000 (3).

Error 3 is “can’t find a free/valid driver”.

Thanks - what could be the solution here?

It was working until a few days ago, and I don’t have any problems playing back audio from other sources - for example in games, in Firefox, in Chrome, in VLC. I can play back mp3s in Rhythmbox and also I can playback using Plex in the browser.

In Plexamp, what Audio OutputAudio Device is selected?

@elan - security issue?

There’s a Plex token leaked in log messages at these timestamps -

I’m masking it here with the word MASKED:

Jan 12, 2022 16:15:02.234 [0x2c46b0c0] DEBUG - Networking: Create request 67: (GET https://46-232-211-100.c68b0fbe3b0842ccae87365798404ed2.plex.direct:21225/photo/:/transcode?width=142&height=142&upscale=1&url=%2Fphoto%2F%3A%2Ftranscode%3Fwidth%3D142%26height%3D142%26upscale%3D1%26url%3D%252Flibrary%252Fmetadata%252F54650%252Fthumb%252F1641739681%26X-Plex-Token%3D-------------&X-Plex-Token=<token>).

It looks like X-Plex-Token was incorrectly included twice in the URL, but only one instance was masked. Perhaps the URLencoded =%3D contributes.

Thanks @ Volt - should I delete the pastebin?

Yeah - I should have suggested that.

They might ask for more details - they’ve always been good about removing tokens from logs.

Thanks - I’ve taken down the link (although the pastebin is still up if you have it as I didn’t create and account)

Did you see this question?

Hi - Sorry I can’t find that in the Plexamp application

Playback > Audio Output. Make sure it’s set to Default and not a non-existent device.

Good catch!

[fixed in next release]

Hi - I don’t have that as an option - here’s what I see in the Playback menu

Oh hmm, maybe not available on Linux yet

I went to go have another look at the log but it’s been deleted. Can you DM me?

I just ran the command to update all packages on my Linux installation and tried again - and its working again.

Thanks to everyone who looked at the issue - very pleased to have it working again.

Ah - its stopped working again - no idea why - seems like the ‘fix’ was only temporary

Same issues as before - no matter which song I select it just fails to play

It´s the same on my Linux system! Unfortunately, I´m not seeing the “Audio Output” section. I need to change the output (no pulseaudio installed - and an alsa device needs to be specified) to get the audio working. Will it be added to Plexamp on Linux?

Hi @Mitzsch

I was able to get PlexAmp working again by installing the Flatpak version of the application

I don’t know why this works, but for me at least, it does for now

I use EndeavourOS but installed it via pamac

Thanks for the suggestion! I will probably try the flatpak version but I don´t think that this will solve the/my issue as I need to specify a specific alsa device. (one of so many! - only one works) Well, the “Audio Output” setting should definitely be added to the linux appimage version!

Yeah - I don’t really understand why it has worked - there’s no reason why the flatpak build would be different from the AppImage, but for now, at least I have it working again. Good luck getting it working
