I am very, as in very confused on how to use Plexamp.
I downloaded it on my phone and installed it on a win 10 box as a test. great it can play music files much like winamp back when. Ok this is useful.
But what got me to try it and why I am posting this is this, I want to be able to play music from any of my FireTv Plex clients and have it play through the Plexamp. Specifically use my phone running Plex client and have that play through the Plexamp audio output. This is my expectation anyway, is that wrong? Can that be done?
When I click in the upper right hand corner of Plexamp (running on win 10) none of the FireTv players are listed and yes I have one or two with music queued up that should show up?
Is my understanding of how this works all wrong? If so, why did you re-invent the wheel?
Anyway as you can see I am very confused on this subject. Thanks for any help or clarification.
Curious as to why the headless version for the Pi? How is that used, web browser or does the phone app connect to the headless Pi? If the later does the music play from the Pi or Phone?
Thanks, Sorry for the stupid questions. Just trying to figure this out since Plex proper does a nice job playing music even on the phone.
With Plexamp headless, you can use your phone Plexamp (or Plexamp running on PC or Mac) to control its playback. When you select a player using this dialog, that is used as the playback device (that can still be controlled from your phone).
Those are both Plexamp headless running on Raspberry Pis. So, for example, if I were playing music in my office on my Mac, but I wanted to move to my living room, still playing the same queue, I would simply select my living room Plexamp headless instance from the Players dialog.
If I subsequently wanted to move back, I could do so by re-selecting my Mac. What’s not shown here is my phone, which I could use to control all of this playback/moving around.
You can use the Plexamp headless web UI as well, but it’s not nearly as convenient, in my opinion.
You were asking about FireTV clients and playing from them to Plexamp. That doesn’t work and that’s not what I described. I’m talking exclusively about Plexamp clients, headless or otherwise, and the ability to move playback between them.
I just use the headphone out jack (or HDMI). I’m no audiophile so I’m not concerned with getting the best possible audio quality.
My bad, you are correct. I didn’t realize until your post about the phone app. I use the regular Plex app on my phone and that will see the Plexamp so I just assumed that the FireTv Plex app would as well. I don’t have any Plexamp clients that actually can play anything. I tried this in a VM that has no sound. I posted this thread before I tried all possibilities. Your original post should be a sticky all by itself.
Again, thank you very much for explaining all of this.
