Plex has removed access to music from the main Plex app what are we meant to do when the PlexAmp app crashes as soon as I try to start playback of any music. The main Plex app is still running fine, but has no access to my music. I now have no way to listen to any of my music via Plex.
And still Plex pushes on with this malfunctioning app craziness.
Given you’ve now posted „Plexamp is not working for me“ in several threads… maybe you could post some specifics about your setup (server platform / version, mobile model / version and installed version of Plexamp) and the circumstances of how it’s failing / crashing in a separate thread?
What a shame that Plex has decided to remove music from the main app. What an even bigger shame that the PlexAmp app crashes as soon as I try to start playback of any music. The main Plex app is still running fine, but has no access to my music. I now have no way to listen to any of my music via Plex. Thank you Plex NOT!
I would love to provide more information about the crash except that I get nothing to report. When I start playing music I get about 5 seconds of music, the music pauses for about 5 seconds and then the app crashes and I return to the home screen with an Android pop up telling me the app crashed “Unfortunately, Plexamp has stopped.” with the option to open the app again.
This is using my LG V20 phone running Android 8.0.0. Plexamp is version v4.12.3 starring React Native v0.72.15. The server is currently running on my ReadyNAS server. The server version is 1.41.7.9799-5bce000f7.
As for reproduction steps, I start Plexamp, select the Library button on the bottom menu, select the Albums category and find the album I want to play. I then press the PLAY button next to the album cover. I then get between 5 to 20 seconds of music before playback pauses for about 5 seconds and then the app crashes. This seems to happen on a number of albums in my collection that I have tried. So far this 100% repeatable.
This is not happening on my Pixel 8 Pro or my Android car computer.
First thing to check is whether Plexamp is actually “crashing”, or if it’s just being forcefully sent to sleep by the Android OS, due to its over-zealous power saving policies.
Here are a sanitised set of typical errors from my logs:

I have some bad news for you, the company made a strategic decision to do the exact opposite of what you want. It seems unlikely they will choose to change course any time soon.
There are a significant number of users who feel this decision was unwise and inappropriate. If we don’t voice our dissatisfaction of the decision then Plex won’t be aware of how unpopular and unwelcome is this decision.
I also foresee technical reasons why this change will not be appropriate on some platforms.
It has been a week since I provided the information about the issue. As there have been no updates I have reverted to the old Plex client and everything is working properly with a UI that is far easier to use.
