Plexamp - Discord Rich Presense

This has been requested for Plex Media Player, but I’d like to formally suggest it for PlexAmp.

Discord Rich Presence is a way to share with friends what you are currently playing/listening to/watching. This would be an opt-in feature as not everyone may want to show what they’re listening to.

There are currently third party apps that do this, however they are difficult to set up (They put the Discord app creation on the user) and require you running a separate application while also running PlexAmp. This could be included in PlexAmp itself.

For level of effort, it’s one of the easiest integrations to add. There are multiple open source libraries available to implement this, but at it’s core it’s simply process-to-process communication. If the library detects the discord process, it requests a chunk of json be sent to it. More info on integration here: Make Your Game Stand Out with Rich Presence | Discord

Thank you, Plex Devs (and PMs, and QAs, and everyone over there). Sincerely, especially PlexAmp, this is truly the best player I’ve used since the old WinAmp days.

Just catching up on this suggestion…
While you describe a specific technical platform to cover sharing with friends – Plex have in the meantime integrated their own activity feed where you can share what you watch / like / … with them (or not). I suppose this covers the underlying suggestion, doesn’t it?

2023 clean-up: considered implemented (sharing/commenting)
