Plexamp Distinct Issue With AAC

Hello. Most of my music is in the AAC 320 kbps format. Lately, I have noticed a weird high-pitched audible beep/screech that happens when I play over Plexamp. I have narrowed it down exclusively to Plexamp + AAC. If I listen on the regular Plex app, no audio issues. If I let Plexamp transcode to OPUS, no issues. If I convert the AAC to an MP3 - no issues. I have tried fiddling with all the settings, including setting the preamp to 0 and disabling loudness leveling, and even clearing the cache. None of these have resolved the issue. Any other possible resolutions would be greatly appreciated.

What hardware/platform is Plexamp running on?

If it’s Android mobile, have you tried to switch the audio interface type between “AAudio” and “OpenSL ES” and comparing?

How did you encode the AAC? It’s likely that the decoder doesn’t like the file for some reason.

Please let us know what platform/OS you’re listening on, and post a sample of a file which exhibits the issue.

Hello all. I am using Plexamp on both Windows and iOS. It appears to be a case isolated on one particular windows machine. My Windows Laptop with Plexamp does not exhibit the same issue. Albeit, I am using Bluetooth headphones with my laptop versus a wired speaker setup on my desktop - which is the Windows machine with the issue. Either it is some audio driver issue on the one machine or just the DAC that the speaker is connected to, but the issue only happens with Plexamp + AAC. Any other format on Plexamp is fine, or listening to the AAC file on VLC Player does not yield the issue.

I believe we use the OS codecs on Windows, so it’s possible that the different installs have different codecs or codec versions.

After updating to latest release - 4.1.0, the issue has seemed to be gone. Thanks!

There really haven’t been any changes in that area, so the only thing I can think of is maybe a corrupt install???

Tidal linked and played though plexamp on rpi is doing this. Iqaudio DAC cabled to audio in on a sony amp. Most tidal streams are flac and play fine. My local mp3 rips play fine. Im looking for an m4a or aac local file.

Rennaisance Vol 1 on tidal displayed this problem on several tracks.
