Plexamp DJ feature

Hello,

I never managed to make the DJ feature works. I realise recently I had to activate sonic analysis in the advanced setting of the library, which I did.

Now, I’m playing a track, click on the vinyl player icon, select the ‘DJ’ and then…nothing. Nothing is automatically put after the track that is being played. Looking videos on youtube it seems it’s the expected behaviour.

What am I missing?

Did the sonic analysis on your server complete for this library?
Depending on the size of your library (and how powerful your machine is), this can take a significant amount of time (days, if not weeks).

Do you see any “sonically similar” hubs on the artists / albums of your library?

I think you are totally right.

My question now is how can i restart the sonic analysis.

As if i go to the EDIT section of my music library, it’s ticked, but apaprently didn’t run / didn’t finish to run but if it’s still running, how can i see the progress ?

Or how can i retrigger it?

It will be running automatically during the scheduled maintenance period until it is done.

If you want to speed that up, extend the time slice. But don’t let it overlap with when you want to regularly use the server. Because this analysis is quite taxing and can potentially interfere with regular use.

I see.

Is there a way to see what % of the sonic analysis it is?

Will i receive a notification or an email to know that it’s over and that the DJ feature is ready to be used?

My music library is 2.9T and i have the DS920+

It’s been at least a week that i activate the sonic analysis.

No and no.
You will eventually see Sonically Similar Artists and Sonically Similar Albums popping up in your library.

It may take a while still. The CPU in this device is not particularly suited for this kind of workload.

Got it thxs.

Also, once it’s complete, is it stored in the preferences files of PLEX or sthg?

I’m asking because i just bought a more powerful UGREEN NAS and plan to move my media library AND the Plex Media Server, so i hope once it’s done once, and i can still move everything and not have to re-run it

It’s stored in library databases and associated files.

Hello,

I still don’t understand how to see if the sonic analysis is done or not.

I activated it, i waited,

As i couldn’t find the option in the library to decide if it’s a scheduled task or not, as mentioned in the documentation (see below).

I sticked to the schedule tasks settings, by enlarging the window to the max, so it was doing the analysis for few days non stop.

I did see sonic analysis running with a number album being scanned on the activity section.

I don’t see it anymore, see screenshot below.

Problem is i still don’t see sonically similar artists, on the artist page.

What i see in the library:

It’s hard to tell whether or not this is due to not actually having a sonically similar artist, or the lack of analysis.

Forgive me if I’m missing, but how many albums in your library?

24 000 albums

And the corresponding ‘Music’ library is 2.9T according to my plex dash app.

Since the beginning of my message and attempt to make sonic analysis work, i migrated my media & the plex server to a UGREEN DXP6800 PRO NAS (Intel Core i5 with 32GB RAM), so much more powerful processor than my initial DS920+

That is … a lot of albums, it’ll likely take months to analyze.

OK.

So it’s reassuring.

This means it never completed on my DS920+

And as i opened up Scheduled tasks to be all day, it should come to completion after a week or two maybe.

Thanks. I’ll report back here in a few weeks

Just to close the loop here.

I now see Sonically Similar artist on the artist page.
