I just reinstalled PMS, version 4.159.0. Did they remove sonic analysis from plex. I used to have it?
From where do you draw the conclusion that it must have been removed?
It was stuck on finding albums for about 36 hours after I reinstalled. I asked AI co-pilot, said it was removed. If it’s not. How can I get it going again?
To be frank, this is quite worthless. Take anything given by AI with a ton of salt.

OK, sonic analysis used to work prior to uninstall/reinstallation. After the reinstall, on my dashboard, it said sonic analysis was running. The wheel was spinning for about 36 hours. When I went on Plex Dash, it said Sonic was finding my albums. However, it said it found 0 albums during this 36 hours. It was like it couldn’t find them? I stopped my PMS and restarted it. Now it’s not doing anything regarding sonic analysis. How can i begin the process?
Sonic analysis is probably the most computing-intensive task in Plex server.
It is not unheard of, that analyzing a whole library can take weeks (mainly depending on the server’s CPU, of course).
So you should not get impatient already after only 3 days.
And the results of the analysis are only visible and useable after the whole library has been completely analyzed.
You should
- Keep the server running during the night. Do also keep its media storage running as well (in case it is in separate devices, like external hard drives or NAS devices).
- Set the server maintenance period to be as long as possible, as long as the library hasn’t been analyzed completely. Sonic (and other) analysis will take place during this period. Depending on your usage of Plex, you might want to avoid overlapping your typical video watching hours with the maintenance period.
- Verify that sonic analysis has been activated both in the server settings (under “Library”), as well as in the properties of the music library.
OK, I have 1400 albums. it counted down to 0. It took about 2 hours. I don’t see it in Plexamp yet. Does it still require more time?
You can try to run the Optimize DB task in your Plex Troubleshooting section.

What is “it”?
Use the Plex web app and enter some Artist and some Album preplay pages.
Are there “Sonically Similar Artists” or Sonically Similar Albums" shown?
Right. I don’t see sonic similar songs. However just now in plex dash, it says processing 155 albums. (8%)
That means it’s not quite finished.
