I have a quick question about how the cached downloads work. I’ve been using Plex for years and like to have my entire music library downloaded so I don’t need to use cellular data to get the next block of songs. If I have my music fully downloaded in Plex can Plexamp use it directly? If not, is there a way to have Plexamp download everything? I have not seen this option.
Plexamp is currently downloading up to 24 hours of music to your device.
There’ll be some minimum traffic when it sends back playback data to the server.
If you want the capability to download your full library, you’ll need to stick with the regular Plex app on your client.
I see where you’re coming from. I used to download my entire music library with the Plex app… so one of my first questions for Plexamp was… why is it limited to 24h of music. Since I’ve started using it I’ve never really run into an issue. I’ve downloaded a number of playlists and mixes – whenever I’m in my WIFI, Plexamp will switch songs from those lists/mixes (e.g. replacing songs I’ve just listened to with other songs that match the criteria)
It has not been a problem until recently when the hurricane in the NE knocked out power for several days and I had to switch back to Plex for a few days. I’m not sure if Plexamp got stuck because songs in the list were not already available, or because the song list refresh is a server function. In either case, if all music is already cached locally in Plex (like mine is), can Plexamp use it directly? This would be a wonderful feature.
