Download all music locally on Plexamp?

I have 1000’s of albums, but the only way I can see to save them locally to my device with Plexamp is to tap each one and hit the menu and hit download.

Is there an alternative method to sync all music to the device as opposed to one bit at a time?

Plexamp is not made for syncing a whole library to a mobile device.
As a result, you are supposed to sync/download several different “mixes”/“radios”/“shuffles”/“playlists” which all only contain a selection of the whole library.
(You can download a “shuffle” or “radio” of an artist, so you are not really restricted to one single album at once.)
Each download allows up to 24 hours of content.

@OttoKerner, can I ask why?
This seems like such an artificial limitation. I can listen to my whole library on shuffle, but can’t do so with it downloaded locally? This seems like a standard use case no?
If I have a phone with 100’s of GBs of free space, why should I go to the hassle of splitting my music library into multiple 24hrs playlists? This kinda defeats the purpose of limiting the playlist size, don’t you think?
There is no such limitation on the Plex app, you can download your whole music library as long as you have the space for it on your device.
I feel like the Plexamp app is supperior to the Plex app on every aspect except that major one, which is very close to be a deal breaker to me, since I never listen to “mixes”/“radios”/“shuffles”/“playlists”, but prefer having the whole library on shuffle and skip a song if need be.

Please consider supporting whole library download (or at least remove the 24hrs cap on the playlist). Why are you trying to force people to listen to their own music the way you want them to, rather than allowing them to listen to it any way they want?

Would also like to be able to bulk download - both all music or a large selection that I can quickly select.

I would also like to have my downloads sync to a new device so I don’t have to go through the process of re-downloading when I upgrade phones. Is this possible?

Me too! Another vote for syncing my whole collection. I take it Plexamp is using a separate database from Plex?

No, it doesn’t. It is a regular Plex client. All it does, needs to be enabled by the server and the metadata fetched by the server.

So I should be able to use the regular Plex client to sync music to the phone then Plex Amp will be able to see it locally - on the phone?

No. Plexamp’s “Download” and the regular app’s “Sync” are working fundamentally different. (Plexamp’s is simpler, which is one reason why Plexamp is usually working better in that regard)
The unfortunate result is that the apps cannot use each other’s downloaded tracks.

Shame. Thanks for the reply.

Hands down the most asinine part of Plexamp. Seriously, when is the ability to let us listen to our music the way we want going to be added? I paid for Plex almost exclusively to use Plexamp and this is just a slap in the face to audiophiles in 2020 in my opinion. Never in my life will I listen to a playlist or a radio mix or whatever they are called, and if you are one of those people who does, then that is amazing and I am super glad you have that ability. But to not just have a single sync button for my music library, to not have the option to download what I already own is mind boggling to me.

I downloaded 37 albums individually by hand, and then after they finished I realized that in the downloads section on the iOS app, it does not even group the albums into artists? It literally just lists every single individual album… Not even trying to be rude but in what world did the idea not get floated around the table and then immediately implemented?

So I ask once again, when are you going to let us listen to our own music the way we want, not the way you think we should be listening to it?

This is super disappointing. I currently don’t have PlexPass and I’ve been trying to convince myself to buy a lifetime pass, but finding out that PlexAmp doesn’t let you download your own music in a normal way is shocking and disappointing to me. I’ve seen so many people request this feature, only to get immediately shot down by Elan because they just don’t get it. Perhaps Plex doesn’t get it? Perhaps people should be able to download and listen to their music the way they want rather than how Plex wants them to?

The smart station / 24 hour download feature is cool and useful but it should not be the one and only way to download music. Yes, we have regular Plex for downloading music, but from every account I have heard, it is an inferior and neglected product. People go to PlexAmp because it looks and sounds like a really great and improved experience that they are excited to use as a primary music player. It’s frustrating to then download the app and discover that it does not work the way you’d reasonably expect, and then be told by the staff that oops, sorry, you just missed the point of the whole app; that the storage system wasn’t designed to work that way. You know what the solution to that problem is? Design it better. You can do both. You could have a very awesome application where both the people who want to download all their music and the people who just want a smart 24 hour mix can live in harmony… but you can’t see past your own perfect vision enough to even consider it. It’s very very frustrating. I feel super ignored.
