Hey!
I recently set up a raspberry pi with plexamp headless. After quite a lot of work I got it running, however when I change the volume it does not change the sink volume with pulseaudio.
Is there any way to get this done? Currently adjusting the volume does not work properly, since if the bluetooth speaker is at 10% no matter how high I set the volume in plexamp I will still barely hear it
I think this is an unfortunate design. For some players I would like to be able to adjust the volume with my controlling app (iPhone or web) while for my main listening system, the volume should be fixed and controlled by my amplifier.
As of now, the volume follows my phone (or web controller app) when I switch between different players, leading to very unpredictable results.
I would prefer that the player owns the volume rather than the controller app. If I then switch back and forth between players they all keep their volume as is. If a player is set to fixed volume, the controller volume slider should not be visible.
there should be no sudden volume jumps up/down at the player due to connecting or disconnecting a controller …
when connecting a controller to a player, the app volume slider on the controller will change to reflect the existing app volume level at the player …
while connected, changes to the controller app volume slider will affect player app volume (or you can adjust volume using an external amp/receiver/etc. and just leave the app sliders alone)
and when disconnecting, the controller app volume slider will return to its original position, and the player slider will stay where it was at the end of the connected session
It seems like you are absolutely correct! I just played around swapping between 3 devices and the iPhone’s output and the volume slider updates according to my last setting on every device, every time.
(I wonder why I saw this earlier…, I must have done something different…)
Anyway, seems to work well now, so all good! Thank you!
My headless player on my main hifi system has fixed volume, but when i connect to that player with my iPhone, I can still control the volume!
This is not a favourable behaviour as someone using a low volume may raise the volume of the amplifier, and when someone else use the web interface the volume will be way too loud.
If I have selected to hide the volume slider on one player, all companion apps must respect that.
