Plexamp incorrectly internally limiting to 48kHz on android

So I have IEM’s (Moondrop May) which are USB-C but don’t seem to work with Plexamp for this. Should I be going back to Moondrop to ask them to do something their end to get this to work? Or is this my phone’s issue (Android 15 - Poco X6 Pro)?

It’s generally Android’s issue afaik.

Does anyone have any informed opinion on weather installing android 14+ on a new pi would enable bit perfect playback with a USB dac…or is it a lottery?

Agreed with UAPP but PowerAmp doesn’t really work “fine”, while you can set output sample rate it’s not dynamically switched and the dev already confirmed on their forums that they’re not interested in implementing this either.

You’re right, read a while after posting while on the poweramp forum, at least you can set it up manually.

Works fine on other DAPs who have bypassed android’s own USB drivers. FiiO is still on Android 10, 11, and 12 in their DAPs and plexamp’s bit perfect playback works great on these. If Hiby won’t fix it on their side, then just wait about 3 years and buy a DAP when all the DAPs are on Android 14 and 15.

just wait about 3 years and buy a DAP

I just hope you realise how silly and disconnected that sounds.

I’d prefer PlexAmp for my own personal playback stats tracking and ratings that aren’t only kept locally on the device itself, but if that’s not possible then I’ll just use other apps. There’s no value in buying a new device just for one app to work because devs decided against adding a feature.

Of course it sounds silly. That was the point. Plexamp was a pre-requisite for me in my DAP purchase. Which means that certain brands were off the table. The reasonable solution is not to wait 4 years for Android 14 or even to buy a second device. If plexamp bit perfect playback is important to you (as it was to be in my decision), then sell the Hiby and buy a manufacturer that supports bit perfect for all apps. The plex devs have clearly added the feature. It simply does not appear to work on Hiby. Since it works on Shanling and iBasso and FiiO and other devices, it has not clearly been proven that it is a plexamp issue. It could easily be that Hiby has done something special for Tidal and Apple apps to work and they have not done it for Plexamp. Get the hiby devs to look into it.

That is a crazy thing to do. Just install headless Plexamp on Linux on the Pi and experience bit-perfect audio .

Hi. Thanks for spending effort on a great audio player. Here’s why it’s not a nuts idea to me

I have headless running on pi with DAC bit perfect for years. This is awesome. Listen daily. But it turns out I didn’t want headless.
1-I like to see what’s playing and maybe pause and ffwd without looking at a phone.
2-on occasion I like to listen to podcasts.

So I installed a touchscreen on pi. I have pi launch a browser full screen in kiosk mode pointed at the local plexamp IP.

It works for 1 above but it’s a little slow to launch and a little slow on touch response ..but it works. Maybe you know a better way to achieve this.

However listening to other apps for use 2 is still a no go easily, hence looking at android 14+ device. I considered a cheap tablet but it’s still hit and miss apparently and a permanent power cable coming from the side of the screen is ugly so wondered about pi android as it gives me some ability to customise

You could use an old Android tablet to run the Plexamp app just for remotely controlling headless

oh that makes me feel so dumb to not think of that. great idea. I will explore that
Maybe I can find a wirelessly charged tablet so its always powered on without the cable showing

Would there be a way to keep the tablet casting only to the headless and never disconnect?. Can headless be cast to via cabled network? the cast connection is pretty good already I admit but sometimes it disconnects between sessions

Generally Plexamp remembers what it was connected to and always reconnects seamlessly at launch when possible.

It’s mostly a lottery. Devices that support uap1 or uap2 seem to be more accommodating. It also depends on the USB chip used like xmos etc.

I was looking for solutions to this issue and found this thread. Just wanted to confirm that strict mode is working on the Fiio JM21 - thanks. However I did have to close and restart the app for it to take effect, so just a warning for impatient people (like me) who might think the toggles aren’t doing anything.

I’ll see if I can get it working on my Hiby M300 later - though not hopeful. Remember that Hiby Music is usually set to take exclusive usb access, so without disabling that, any external audio from any other app going to another DAC with sample rate indication will be routed via the Android SRC.

I’m using Zen DAC v3 connected with USB-c to the phone running Android 15 and latest plexamp. I’m not able to use bit-perfect from Plexamp. Sample rate matching is set Strict. I am now using app called USB Audio Player PRO (UAPP). It works great, eveything is sent bit-perfect to Zen DAC (Hires FLAC, DSD, everything works). However I would rather use Plexamp because UI is much better.
