Plexamp IOS Stuttering

thanks for checking … at the moment i can only think of temporary workarounds (like forcing transcode to opus for both wifi and cellular playback) that might avoid the stuttering … currently not sure what else to suggest to help root cause and fix the issue (others feel free to jump in) … will keep thinking

Appreciate it, and yeah those workarounds aren’t really acceptable. I’ve even tried disabling the “sweet fades” and changed just about every other option in there to see if anything changes and nothing has helped yet.

OK, I have a new theory based on what I think we’re seeing: I think there might be some corruption occurring between your disk and the Plexamp cache.

Given that we can play the FLACs and not reproduce (and you can play with other apps), it’s almost certainly not an issue with the files.

Deleting the app would clear the cache and thus lead to new caching; if there is an issue with caching, it can be deterministic or not (meaning you might end up with the same corruption in the same files, or not).

To test this theory, have you been able to reproduce the issue with desktop Plexamp? If so, we could compare the file Plexamp cached vs the original FLAC. Unfortunately we can’t get the files off iOS as Apple is … restrictive.

So going off the corrupt cache theory I did some researching. The server uses Stablebit DrivePool to enable disk pooling for increased disk storage. I also enabled file duplication on the music library to tolerate disk failures. By default, read striping is enabled. This apparently causes some issues.

I turned this off, cleared Plexamp caches and I haven’t skipped since so far.

Here’s the article I found: Pool file duplication causing file corruption under certain circumstances - General - Covecube Inc.

wow, that is rather terrifying…

glad you figured it out!

For real. Surprising their devs haven’t fixed this in nearly 5 years. They should put a warning label on it.

Anyway thank you guys for looking into this and steering me into the right direction where to look! I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why I seemingly was the only person in the world having these weird issues.

Keep up the great work on Plex and Plexamp!
