Can Plexamp’s Media Library AND Downloaded content area contain a view to browse your albums with large album artwork? I can’t clearly see the albums when driving and trying to scroll through the albums in list view. The downloaded music section does not currently offer an option to see large album artwork. The regular album view of Plexamp shows albums (3) across, while this is better than how the albums are displayed in the downloaded content area, it’s still not big enough to easily see your albums when you are driving and your phone is attached to your dashboard. A view similar to how Apple’s Music app displays Albums or how VOX Media player displays them would be AWESOME!
OMG… this is awesome! I’ve switched back to using the Plex app with Sync because of the delay and spinning / searching for my server when I go to use Plexamps Downloaded content.
Can this view also be applied to the Plex app as an optional view?
can i see a log here? that shouldn’t ever happen, it should be instant.
I’ve deleted the app. I’ll recreate the issue and post the log when I see it happen.
Here are the logs. The spinning to load album artwork lasted about 3 minutes before the finally loaded. I was able to play the downloaded content back today but none of the artwork would display for about 3 minutes.
There have been times where even the albums would not start to play back for several minutes. That didn’t happen just now, only the artwork loading.
Plexamp-Logs-2021-01-30-1.zip (178.2 KB)i think i see what’s happening here, it’s trying extra hard to connect back to the server and during that period the spinners are going.
i’ve changed that to not try as hard, but it should be totally unrelated to actual playback, just display of artwork in that list.
is it possible this was with very old synced data? this (as you’ve observed in your recent testing) shouldn’t be the case ever.
Sounds good, how long before I see the update? I’ll reply back here with any additional feedback. One other thing I noticed, is that if I use Siri to ask for example: play the album “Ray of Light”, on Plexamp, it will only work off of a connected and active server connection, even though the album “Ray of Light” is downloaded. Siri comes back with the following (see screenshot). For example, right now, I’ve turned my server off and am out running errands. This is what’s happening.
next release, which will be in the usual timeframe.
that’s how it’s currently designed, yeah. we might enhance in the future to find offline content; generally when Siri is online, so is your server, and vice-versa, we don’t have many users who keep their server off generally
Problem is streaming Full Quality FLAC files (because I prefer that rather than limiting quality) over cellular. Otherwise, I’d just use Apple Music.
The idea of Siri integration first searching for and playing downloaded content and if not there, then looking to connected server content makes more sense to save the user data on their cellular plan. Also, even though the setting in Plexamp is set to “always play downloaded content” over server content is selected, it doesn’t seem to apply with Siri integration. Again, just purely from a data saving perspective.
Agree on the Plex server not usually being off. Lol. For me, it’s not off by choice. The cheap NVIDIA shield sometimes just stops responding. I’ve had this problem from the get-go. I recently turned off simple-link on my LG OLED tv which automatically powers down connected HDMI devices when you switch TV Inputs. That could be why but I also went through the NVIDIA shields settings more closely and disabled sleep and adjusted HDMI power settings to never sleep or turn off the Shield. That hopefully will prevent the Shield from not responding moving forwards.
Looking forward to the update for the Album Artwork. Thanks a lot Elan
ageed!
one thing to add—as long as you have the “prefer downloaded media” option picked, then even if you play from the server, all the media will be local.
it shouldn’t make a difference. please feel free to prove me wrong with a log.
I just installed the update and don’t see the large album artwork for downloaded albums? Can this be implemented here? This is where I’d like to see the large size artwork. Scrolling through downloaded content when you are on the road is difficult with such small artwork. Your new large grid size didn’t apply to the downloaded content.
Correct, it’s for library views. We may enhance downloads area to support it in the future as well.
