I have several albums download into Plexamp for off-line access while driving in my vehicle. My Plex Media server is an NVIDIA SHIELD. I often experience disconnections, which is part of the reason why I use Downloaded content in Plexamp. The problem is when I go to play back the downloaded albums, it sometimes takes a very long time before the offline content starts to play back. It seems that Plexamp wants to first connect to my Plex server, even though I’m trying to play back downloaded content. Can the Plexamp app be configured to not search for the Plex Library when the user is on the Downloaded content area?
that shouldn’t be the case; please post a log after the very slow playback.
i just looked at your last log, 17:57 - 17:58, looks like it had an existing play queue from the server which it tried to resume; there was no media in the cache, so it tried to stream from the server.
previous log from 17:52 - 17:57, looks like it’s again loading up a server play queue, where you have no media on disk.
i’m not sure how you’re playing this downloaded content; it doesn’t look like you’re playing it from the downloads tab.
I’m playing the playlist from the Music library tab. I’ve downloaded the playlist and I have the setting set to always play downloaded content.
So I guess that means that the app ignores this setting when you are on the Music library tab? I just thought that the app would first check to the downloaded content area before attempting to fetch the music from the server. Ok, I’ll just make sure I’m on the Downloaded content tab from now on, I guess. What I don’t like about that is you have to scroll all the way to the bottom to see your playlists. The content in the downloaded area is not organized like it is in the music library tab.
i just double checked to make sure this works.
- i downloaded an album.
- i verified i had the settings you have
- i played the album
in the logs, i see the following:

the only reason i can think of why you wouldn’t be seeing this is because you downloaded the playlist a long time ago. for the feature to work (preferring downloaded media) you have to have downloaded it with the last few releases, as it adds some required metadata to the download.
can you clear your cache, do a new download, and see if you see the same logs?
I just installed Plexamp last week. I haven’t been using it. I think it’s that I was on the music tab and for some reason, I was seeing the album and playlist materials but the connection was down. I just looked again and I’m not home and I see this, so I’m thinking it’s the connection and even though Albums and Playlists were showing up, they weren’t playing. I’ll just make sure I’m on the Downloaded tab moving forwards.
almost certainly something with your connect, post debug logs to be sure. it may have cached album/artist count e.g. from before.

definitely looks like it’s having trouble connecting. possibly you don’t have remote access enabled/working?
Can you please remove the logs and IP address in your last post that shows the connection to my server from these threads? I’m not so sure I like them being public info.
done.
