Playing around with writing some NFC Tags and running into a weird issue. For some albums I get the expected eyeball and music icon to switch between playback or for browsing. When I write on in that mode and then scan it, it pulls up the full album as expected. However for some other albums the write menu seems “locked” for browsing only. That seems OK since I prefer it come up as browse so I can select where its going to playback (have a few raspi with plex headless), but when I scan in this mode, the album comes up blank.
I’ve looked at the meta data and tags between albums that will write and those that won’t and there doesn’t seem to be any difference. Any clues?
So I’ve been looking more at the differences between the ones that will write successfully and won’t and one thing seems to be the ones that work have a musicbrainz match and the ones that don’t don’t. So I used Picard to upload one that wasn’t there (makes sense that they aren’t since these are all live shows that I have posters for) and waited until it would show up on a match using MBID. Made the match but still it doesn’t show the icon to switch between playback and browsing so assuming it still won’t write correctly.
Is there something I need to do to get the match data to propagate?
Update with the fix. The issue was with the musicbrainz matching. I uploaded a bunch of live albums to that using Picard, waited 24-48 hours, matched the plex album with the item I uploaded (usually had to wait until it would auto match - using the MBID had variable success). Restarted plex amp app on my phone and then I was able to write a tag that would pull up the correct album.
