I would like to download my entire music library and/or a playlist whose size is only limited by the storage capacity of my mobile device. I’ve read that there may be UI limitations, and if the dev team believes that then provide the user with a “Poor performance if you do this” warning. Give us the choice.
As a temporary stop gap between now and when the Plexamp team can fix this issue, there could be an option to randomly pick between songs across playlists. I.e. a playlist of playlists. This is not ideal, but it is better than constantly having to pick between playlists and pick favorites of favorites.
Another option; make a feature that downloads the playlist files as MP3s which would be unmanaged by Plex or Plexamp after the download. That way I can at least use Plex/Plexamp to manage my playlists, then use a different mobile player to listen to the MP3’s stored on my mobile device. This would be useful in other scenarios as well, like being able to download raw files from Plex to share with someone else.
I know this has been discussed many times, and the number of times it has come up hopefully shows the current implementation is not sufficient.
I was going to end by quoting the lyrics to the O’Jays song “Give the people what they want”, but I can’t remember them because there isn’t enough room in my playlist for it
Just to double down on the request to remove download limits, I support this post. Give the people what they want! I understand that the limit is 24 hrs per item. But if we can download all we choose with that being the only restriction, then I really don’t understand the need for that one restriction. Eliminate it please
In addition to what @tom80H has said, it’s been made clear that removing download size limits, or at least expanding them, is being looked at. So just a little patience is what is needed.
Thanks for the comments. This issue has existed for years and it seemed to me that there was no progress being made, or even any intent to eventually improve the situation. Reading the comments in this thread and the comment made by SimonXCIV here, I see that is not the case. Looking forward to the day when this issue is resolve.
