Plexamp stopped working from Windows 10 machine

I’ve been using Plexamp at work to stream my music collection from home and it’s been awesome! However, recently, I think since the last Plex server update (Version 1.13.1.5063), it has stopped working. I’ve reinstalled and get the same behavior afterwards. Any help would be appreciated. FYI, I have tried Plexamp from my Mac Mini at home and it works fine.

same issue, windows 10, plexamp version 1.0.5

I’ve got the same thing on Linux as of yesterday. Server version 1.13.0.5023, Plexamp version 1.0.5.

Running from terminal shows this:

...
warn: DEVICE: Cannot initialize, no token.
info: [MPD] Started, now we will connect
info: [MPD] Connecting...

Eventually the connection attempt times out.

Ok it seems the above MPD problem was a one-off. Output now stops at

debug: DEVICE: Persisting devices.

With no output when trying to play a song, and just a blank screen like above.

I am however getting ECONNECTIONREFUSED on the player on port 36000

I’ve had an issue like this before on my Windows machines, and I could only fix it by uninstalling the app and then deleting the folder in:
C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Plexamp

Hope this helps?

Thanks! That worked.

Just tried this on Linux, has not helped. MPD just gets stuck connecting still.

Same issue, deleting local files and reinstalling the app fixes it (could it be a cache issue?). Need to investigate further next time it happens.

Seconded. In my scenario I only needed to delete the folder rather than reinstall the app, and it was working all new.

It’s quite a serious issue as it happened today when I tried connecting from another plex web client to plexamp, which first broke the visualiser (it got stuck on the ‘music tattoo’ one) as I was unable to change it. Disconnecting and playing local files worked fine, however the visualiser would not change, not via keyboard shortcut or menu. After restarting plexamp I was greeted with a blank screen, yet it resumed music playback grom last time. Media keys were unresponsive. Signed out via the tray icon, but MPD still resumed playing the track after closing and re-opening plexamp while still being signed out.

Deleting the application folder worked for me as well. (Win 10)

omg! thank you! deleting that folder did the trick, no need to re-install.
I guess it’s because access token expiration.

I deleted the sub-directory and restarted the app. I was able to play music, but the artwork refused to display. I had to fully delete the app (and manually remove the appdata directories) and reinstall in order to restore the display of the artwork.

Thanks for the heads up, guys. Just happened to me.

However, in my case, just deleting the folder in the ‘Roaming’ folder, rather than ‘Local’ did the trick.

ie. C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Plexamp

This folder has a Cache folder and cookies.

I can confirm that deleting the folder is enough to fix the problem. I did not had to reinstall. The problem happened randomly in my laptop. I am running windows 10 BTW.

I am having the same issue now.

My Plexamp application quit working. The only change I made to my HP Pavilion Desktop was changing to a new Bluetooth adapter. I tried un-installing, deleting the appdata information and re-installing with no luck. The application opens and will let me select music, however, when I choose the ‘Play’ icon it does not change to ‘Pause’ unless I click a few times. Then if it does change it still does not play any music and the time bar does not move.

I am running Windows 10 Pro, version 1809, OS build 17763.529.

I have 1.1.0 installed. I happened to have 1.0.5 in my downloads and tried that and it works the same way.

My Plex Media Server (on the same machine) is working and I can hear output from it, my Amazon Music App and any other music application.

Any Ideas?

I installed Plexamp on my laptop, connected to my Plex Media Server and it worked.

I deleted Plexamp, deleted all appdata entries and as many registry entries as I could find, re-booted and re-installed Plexamp. I get the same issue described above, it calls up the music and cover art but will not play.

Update: I unistalled Plexamp and removed app directories, rebooted and then installed the latest Beta version of PMS (1.15.6.1079). I then re-installed Plexamp and logged onto my PMS. Now when I start Plexamp I do not get any artwork, cannot select any music, only a blank screen.

I also compared registry entries containing ‘Plexamp’ with my laptop (where Plexamp works) and all entries match.

I have attached the latest logs from the appdata directory.

Application.log (35.3 KB)
Server.log (5.6 KB)

Thanks for the Fix!

I had a similar issue occur on the MacOS version. For some reason the “Player” selection in the drop-down had become unchecked. I had to recheck “Local” and that resolved my issue. I guess in theory Plexamp can drive other players?

I did not get any help from Plex to fix this, however, the Windows gods did. I had a major issue and had to re-load Windows 10. Now Plexamp works as desired.
