If you really need that im sure you could add some code into the app to have it tell you it updated fairly easily
update done:
updater.zip
It opens a dialog then quits the popup within 5 seconds, took about 5min.
I have created a pull request that automates nearly the entire automated update process on OSX here and includes a easy to follow readme:

Nice but Plexify does it with amazing UI by itself.
Yes, but Some of us use a different directory then the default plexify location. I also donāt want to navigate to the hidden folder everytime if I want to manage it such as copying or editing files. This is a open source alternative. If you like plexify use it nobody is stopping you, I just prefer this alternative.

Not everyone cares to use Plexify, especially since the source is closed and has been promised to be released for a while now. This is appreciated for all of us who don't care to use it.

I bet there are a lot of people waiting... :-D

Plexify isn't great until it is open source
Thank you guys for this, makes it so much easier to update.
The idea to start the update process on startup is good, but in my case and probably many others, the server is maybe restarted once a month if at allā¦
So if it would be possible to implement an unload deamon - update - reload deamon command, that would be perfect!

Instead of a popup window, can you make a message in the notification center that says, up to date?
Or allow it to notify that there is an update and give us option to update?
Just finished some MAJOR overhaul on the code to automate it for everyone. I know OSX came in last for the bash startup scripts to work maybe this will change things up. It now fully works and is automated according to your system. Best of all it's completely open source ;)
--Update:
@wolfster it has just been implemented, get your updated copy as instructed on the OP
I have successfully implemented a new app for plist unloading and reloading after you download the new app & code just rerun ./install.bash to update the code exactly as the OP readme.txt guides you to. (If you use a different plist just edit update.bash to match your settings the default is com.plex.plexconnect.bash.plist)Ā
So the code now Stops--->Updates--->Starts plexconnect on its own ;)
I have since imported updaters functionality into the new app OpenConnect. Here is an open source alternative app that is now ready for primetime follow the OP to install:

PLEX isn't open source, why complaining about Plexify? Envious, are you?
Have used PlexConnect and Plexify since day 1 - have had no problems what so ever - except my own stupidity!
