What is the method for updating PlexConnect? Do you just overwrite all the files with the new ones? Do you run it again?
Yep... download a fresh ZIP and extract it to your folder.
Or use git cli or the github app (GUI) to clone and synchronize.

I'm using a Mac Mini with Mavericks.
I have a nice helper app / addon in my signature to automate the process on osx. You can update manually or auto-update plexconnect by the app or its addon.
