PlexConnect no longer rendering TV & Movie list in library

Hi Guys

 

Having major issues with PlexConnect

 

PlexConnect no longer rendering TV & Movie list in library i just get the spinning timer.

All my other libraries are working

 

I have tried restarting PMS and logging in and out of my devices 

 

But i cannot get PlexConnect to show them

This is the same issue you posted in the “Premium Music Library” thread… and as I said your old log showed that PlexConnect could not find any of the xml templates, but you’ve since replaced that log with a new log that contains no details :frowning:

Have you tried installing the latest version of PlexConnect?

I have the latest version i have just updated the log. I reset everything and ran it again in High.

You’ve pulled the wrong github branch, you need the master branch not the GZip_Benchmark branch. On the github page change the branch to “master” and re-download PlexConnect.

Hi Rock

Can you tell me how i remove or how i reinstall Plex in a more semi newbie way PLEASE.

I can ftp or SSH into my Apple TV but other than that i am a little new to PlexConnect been a XBMC clown for years.

But i put PlexConnect on several months ago and not had any issues until i created this new Premium Music library!!!!

Not sure why it has screwed it up but up until today PlexConnect has been perfect????

I have a the latest PlexConnect Master zip file can i drag this over my old installation in ftp???

Sounds like you have PlexConnect installed on your Apple TV, yes? If so then I can't help you, I don't use PlexConnect installed on the Apple TV... Sorry :( I'm sure someone will come along shortly and help you :)

I also note the TV library loads after 15 minutes and then you can pick a TV show

If you come back out to look at other shows you have to wait another 20 min????

Spotting the error was easy just by looking in the log you provided. But as I said I don't have PlexConnect installed on an Apple TV so I don't know how to install it on an Apple TV.

I have it installed on the same machine as my Plex Media Server.



But you also confuse me I asked you if you had the latest version of PlexConnect installed and you said:-

So which is it you either have the latest version or a version that's several months old?

And if you managed to install PlexConnect on the Apple TV before then why can't you install it again?

Yes, because you're using the wrong branch of PlexConnect, your log clearly shows you're using the Gzip_Benchmark branch and not the master branch.

I have PlexConnect Dev 5 

Also i have PMS 0.9.12.1

I think both are the latest version PlexConnect does not get released  as much a PMS.

You have me interested i have WHS 2011 with PMS on it which feeds my ATV.

Are you saying i could run it on my WHS and exp[ort to my projector via HDMI?

PlexConnect is updated weekly, sometimes even daily, don’t rely on the version number from the settings screen.

I also have both PlexConnect and PMS on my WHS 2011 machine. Not sure what you mean by “export to my projector via HDMI?”. By running PlexConnect on the WHS machine you would still use your ATV to access your content, that’s the whole point of PlexConnect, it’s a bridge between PMS and ATV.

Really confused how do you look a PlexConnect it it is  on your WHS?

How do you see PlexConnect on your ATV if it is not installed on your ATV?

Wow my mind is in turmoil thinking how you do it.

Plex media server and PlexConnect are on your host machine typically. When your enter in the DNS to point at your Plexconnect host the hijacked app goes to your plexconnect host then displays plex content on your aTV.

Absolutely not. In fact I'd say the ATV is probably the worst place to install it, for a number of reasons:-

1. It requires the ATV to be jailbroken. The whole point of PlexConnect is that it works without the need for a jailbroken ATV.
2. The ATV is relatively slow.
3. No PIL support so you can't use the nice fanart views :D
 

How do you see PlexConnect on your ATV if it is not installed on your ATV?


I don't think you fully understand exactly what PlexConnect does.

All PlexConnect does is take the xml content of your PMS library and translates it into a format that the ATV can display using the ATV's own menu language. The ATV talks to PlexConnect across your local network so PlexConnect does not have to be installed on the ATV.

Most apple tv apps go to servers that display the screens you see in ea individual app. Have a read at the plexconnect wiki, it explains it also…our PMS/PlexConnect hosts act like one of these with the DNS trick.

I think i get it now have PC running on my server with my PMS. Point my ATV  DNS to my WHS where my PC is located and running.

Further questions

My ATV is jailbroken as i used it with XBMC originally then PC are you saying i just need to update my ATV  to stock firmware and do above?

Or can i still leave it in jailbroken state and still do above?

If i leave it how do i remove PlexConnect from my ATV to avoid confusion ?

FInally when i have installed PC on my server and configured my ATV DNS how does it appear on my ATV do i still get the PlexConnect icon ?

You don't have a typical setup. If PlexConnect is installed upon your jailbroken aTV2 and PMS is located on your WHS it not the same as both bring on the WHS. You can remove the icon if desired by either re-jailbreaking the aTV or removing the added-site but its not required and actually makes your aTV2 portable by jut signing into mypex and bringing your aTV2 only with you anywhere you have internet and a tv with hdmi or equivalent (e.g. vacation):

You would need to remove the bag.plist (app) from the /User/Library/Application Support/Front Row/ExtraInternetCategories.plist using sftp by downloading-->editing-->re-uploading that file, this shows the location where it was installed:

Still not sure why you would need to remove it...

Anyone else seeing an issue ewith the latest Cyber theme ? Specifically all has been working fine but with latest update after getting into library view and then choosing one, say movies, I get the Accessing Trailers spin and it just sits there.


Did a test with another theme (ibaa) and worked fine which leads me to believe PMS is still working fine but maybe something in theme update ?


Again just wondering if others are experiencing this or not. DM’d Cyber as well
