I have a few aTV2’s. I will update and let you know if I see the same results asap. I have a older commit fork if you want to use it temporarily on post 355 in this topic.

During discovery your shared server didn't respond... Do you have PlexHome/managed user active?
I do have PlexHome enabled. I tested with Plex on iOS by logging out (same user account as the PMS) and quit the app, reopened the app, at which point I could no longer access the PMS (as expected).
Then I signed in using the AppleTV's account (I use a separate account for the aTV because it was set up before Plex Home came out).. So anyway, signed in with the AppleTV's Plex account and was able to access the PMS without a problem.
I was going to test later today running PlexConnect on the PMS again and setting the aTV's DNS to that. I just need to make sure I have the correct cert installed I believe.
My fork is giving me a validation error on PlexHome. Switching to @baa's default github now. Weird while updating I seen this:
File /etc/apt/sources.list.d/plex.list does not exist. High fives!
Anyways using baa's git works with PlexHome from what I can tell I will be updating my fork shortly to his latest commit.

Looks like spoofing and badges don't mix. Could there be an easy way to disable badges in the settings tab or switch them to the older style so we can have the spoofed apps and PlexConnect at the same time. Once you unspoof the info.plist and reboot your aTV all the additional apps disappear since they "require" the higher iOS version thats detected here:

This was raised in a thread once before and roody said he could not help, so I take it he did not want to put an option in, just for such a limited number of users who spoof the version number.
I added it into my fork, all done and working now. I prefer to have more apps and use PlexConnect at the same time on my jailbroken aTV2. :ph34r:
*Warning to spoofers. Spoofing to iOS 7 (8) breaks hbogo. But you do get beats audio.app not to sure if it works or not since I don't have a beats audio account. You can always go back if you do spoof to high just reboot your aTV each time you spoof your iOS up or down.
Find this package and install it be it a .deb or using apt. Use google to search for it and find it.
Did you install the SQLite packages from here like in the instructions instructed you to prior to installing python?
Sometimes the package maintainers change the code for these dependencies which is out of my control.

Hello, I have recently upgraded my ATV2 to iOS 5.3 and followed your clear instructions to install PlexConnect. However I received the error "libiifi is not installed" during the process and after installation PlexConnect cannot see my PMS even after logging into My Plex (I presume missing "libiffi" is the reason why?).
You said above to another user to locate libiffi.deb via Google, however there are multiple versions available and I'm afraid I'll stuff things up further by installing the wrong one (I have very little knowledge of what I'm doing in case it's not abundantly clear ;) ) Can you please confirm which version of libiffi I should install or where I should download it from?
ok so now I can pick up my PMS and browse my collection, but whenever I go to play anything I get the error message "Element additional media badges: This element is not expected".
Does this have anything to do with the spoof.deb file I installed to get the extra apps? (I seem to recall reading something about the spoof not making badges not work?)
If you are spoofed you can use my git and disable the badges by going into the settings tab then movie and TV show options and setting the preplay badges to default then it will work while spoofed to get the additional apps. Its synced with baa's github with a few extra's ;)
Couldn't find those options under movie or TV setting. Do I need to install something specific from your GIT for them to appear?
I think I'f actually like to unspoof for now as given I'm in Australia spoofing the OS didn't really give me any interesting extra apps anyway, so i think I might be better off returning to default to get badges back (which will presumably get rid of the above error too?). Could you please let me know how to remove spoof?
Thanks walhman.j. I started running the terminal commands you suggested above but got the " python: Depends: libffi but it is not going to be installed" error message. I had this the first time around as well. Should I ignore and proceed or do I need to install the missing dependency?
I tried the default Info.plist file in your GIThub but my ATV wouldn't boot (I definitely had the case correct so it wasn't that). I have reverted back to the spoofed .plst and followed your terminal commands above and finally got it working.
What are the badges exactly? (I never saw them in action before spoofing the box). I have definitely decided I wont be using any of the new channels on the ATV via the spoof hack, so I'm wondering whether I would better off getting it working with the default plst if the badges give me useful functionality?
Also, do I need to to worry about "libffi" being missing?
I would imagine if PlexConnect works it shouldn't matter for the libffi dependency. The badges are what labels each video/tv show/audio such as SD, mkv, 2.0 audio, 720P etc. I need to do some more testing to see if the default badges work on iOS 5.3. Im pretty sure they did from what I recall. There is more info on badges here:
Damn those badges look rather useful actually. However I can't get back to default iOS via that Info.plst file (have tried twice now) so I think I'll just leave it as is I'm just happy it's working.
Worthy of note is that your instructions for installation on 5.xx (post 347) all worked up until it came to PMS discovery (I logged into MyPlex ok, but it wouldn't find my server no matter how many times I rebooted server and box and tried the "discovery" option). Then I ran your instructions to install modified GIT from post 378 which got everything working fine.
I'm not sure how I'd replicate the exact libffi error now sorry (it was " python: Depends: libffi but it is not going to be installed" after the 2nd terminal command I think ) as I've closed the terminal window, but given it's working I'll just leave it for now.
I've come from running the old native Plex app on iOS 5.01 so there's a lot of improvements and new features I'm loving in PlexConnect (and so much less lag with navigation!). I'm very grateful for your help getting it working. Thanks heaps :D
You could always enter DFU mode on your aTV (if desired) then manually restore to iOS 5.3 since its still being signed by apple. Once you get there you can follow post 355 and install iBaa or mine via ssh only.

I got this same error, but it was after I ran "dpkg -i python_2.7.3-3_iphoneos-arm.deb".
if you run "apt-get install libffi", and then rerun from "dpkg -i python_2.7.3-3_iphoneos-arm.deb" onwards, you should be right.

Thanks David. I ended up getting it working using a similar method to the one you described above, but I can't remember exactly what I did now. Anyway I've been running Plex Connect without issue on my ATV2 the last couple of weeks and have been very happy with it (it's a very nice upgrade after coming from the old native ATV Plex app) so I don't plan to touch it again until something breaks or there is a worthy upgrade :)
Having said that - one minor annoyance is that I'm getting infrequent popups from Apple notifying me of a new software update to download, which I obviously don't want to install, so I just get cancel out of it. However it would be nice to block these alerts from appearing to prevent anyone from accidentally upgrading. I presume there's a patch that can be installed via NitoTV or SSH to block these alerts?
