PlexConnect on RasPi + WOL magic packets?

Hi everyone. I wonder if anyone can help me out, with a “nope can’t be done - save your time” response, or perhaps links to something that may assist, so here goes;

I run PMS on a windows 10 box and currently use plexconnect to make my appleTV3 the primary media consumption client, plexconnect runs on the same system as the server and all works perfectly most of the time (windows likes to close plexconnect for some reason over night).
.
I’ve recently been given a raspberry pi 3b+, and was thinking about running plexconnect on that instead - but also having it setup to send “magic packets” for wake on lan, to the server machine as necessary. Both for local network requests (via the apple tv3 or mobile clients) and from the occasional remote (outside LAN) access request.

My ideal use case would be able to just open the trailers app on the apple tv (the app plex connect hijacks) and have that trigger the raspi to send the wake up command to the server.

Does anyone know if this is easily doable?

In a perfect world I’d also like to have the raspi still available for RetroPie (old school games emulation), would that be stretching the capabilities too much? Not a deal breaker if it is, The retropie functionality is a lower priority than WOL for plex ultimately.

I’m new to raspis and python coding in general - and while I know this isn’t a raspi nor a python help area, I also know some plex users “have tried it all” and could likely give a definitive answer (and hopefully some pointers) about how to achieve what I’m aiming for.

Cheers for reading this far. Any help will be gladly received.

Even though PlexConnect can be modified to send the magic packet, this would not solve cases where you want to wake from remote requests, or from other Plex clients. I’ve never tried this myself, but from what I’ve seen from others, they opted to use router’s facilities to wake PMS.

Furthermore, I’m not sure that PMS allows your server to hibernate, in Linux platforms this is almost impossible, but maybe it’s possible in Windows. Take a look at this post, maybe it will give you ideas on how to implement what you want.

Be aware that, although sleeping has the benefits of lower electricity bill and less constant noise, it will shorten HDD life.
