Plexconnect running on any jailbroken iOS device

Just keep updating cydia from time to time I'm sure they will push out a fix for mobilesubstate on iOS 7.

Ok i will do that;) i new to this and i really appreciate your help ;) thx a lot

I caught up on everything said here, and I’ve hit the same roadblocks as Ivy yet again. As you each stated, the Daemon dosnt seem to wanna work on iOS 7, due to the jailbreak being unstable at the moment with mobile substrate in particular not being updated yet.

So… We’re pretty much stuck until everyone in the jailbreak community gets caught up and updates their stuff, which is perfectly understandable. That being said, is there an alternate method of manually starting PlexConnect on iOS? In your screenshots you show PlexConnect printing all it’s operation in mobile terminal, as PlexConnect does on OSX when run through terminal. PlexConnect running as a daemon would not display these things in terminal would it? It’d all be running in the background correct?

Also, as of yet, even without the updates, mobile substrate has been functioning as normal (well for the most part) as long you reinstall after every reboot. It’s worked with other Cydia tweaks (I can get Swipe Selection running on iOS 7 after a freshly reinstalled mobile substrate after a reboot for instance.) Now granted, I tried this method of reinstalling substrate to get the daemon to function to no avail, but-- here’s the proposal-- could a fresh reinstall of mobile substrate, combined with a method of manually starting iOS PlexConnect be our ticket to success here? (Assuming you can manually start PlexConnect without the Daemon. That’s my real question.)

Thoughts?

I belive the only way to get it to work that I know of is to wait for MS to be fixed up. You can try to launch it via the PlexConnect directory but on my ipad mini 2 it only worked once:

./PlexConnect.py

The install.bash chmod’s all the files to be ran automatically for you when its installed so you can test if you like.

I just updated and jailbroke my iphone 4 and plexconnect works on IOS 6.1.3. Im going to do some further testing and see if I can get it to start at boot, it works running ./PlexConnect.py directly from mobileterminal. Upon further testing it will not autoboot yet just run it directly from terminal for now until MS is fixed.

So I ran PlexConnect.py straight out if the PlexConnect directory and actually had a little success! But I got an error right after startup. If I understand it right, PlexConnect’s logging is throwing everything off.

Here’s the screenshot:

I’m gonna try to shut off PlexConnect’s logging in the morning, see if that resolves any errors and try it all again, but I’m done for the night!

Edit: Fresh reinstalling mobile substrate along with manually running PlexConnect from ./PlexConnect.py seems to be working though, with errors or not! So winning! hopefully

Did you login to mobileterminal first?

login

Yes I did. Shouldn’t make a difference though should it? As opposed to SSH?

Im just confused why it says permission denied in your screenshot.

As am I haha. Working on it… Not really sure where to go with it though…

Just to confirm, what exactly do you mean by logging into mobile terminal first?

Ah, its your log I see it now. I was actually able to install it completely from my iphone, mind you I have a webserver hosting some needed files. I used ifile, safari download manager, mobileterminal, my cydia repo, all on iOS 6.1.3. I cant even access my iphone via ssh yet even though I installed openssh. But plexconnect is fully funtional minus launchctl ;)

My repo speeds up the python install a lot, I just had to run it twice to install python from the repo.

I’ll figure out the log thing tomorrow, thanks wahlman. Update when I figure things out. Or not, we’ll see I suppose

Point aTV DNS to your iPad?

after pointing aTV DNS to my iPad, i get the message TRAILER UNAVAILABLE?

do i have to install also a new cert on the apple tv?

You need the same certs on your atv & your IOS device. Then run this in mobileterminal:

apt-get install wget

Plexconnect is fully functional for iOS7 now, you must update to cydia 1.1.9 as well. Enjoy, merry Xmas

After you update & install everything reboot your IOS device and PlexConnect will load at boot now (launchtl works & MS fixed) remember turn on airplane mode if you want to keep plexconnect alive.

Here is screenshot of a iPad mini 2 on iOS 7.0.4.

Guide updated here:

https://github.com/wahlmanj/PlexConnect/blob/master/support/IOS_jailbreak/readme.txt

Tested on iOS 5-7 everything works except launchctl on iOS 6.13-6.15 which will hopefully be fixed soon.

I created a temporary script that works with iOS 6.13-6.15 until the jailbreak is fixed to load plexconnect via launchctl, see guide for instructions.

And I’m up and running

Finding Cydia updated this morning certainly helped. For whatever reason I kept getting the logging permissions error, which I fixed by simply turing logging to “Off” in settings.cfg. Afterwards, PlexConnect functioned normally by running ./PlexConnect.py without worrying about the daemons. (Which I’m fine with cuz if prefer to run it manually anyway  )

I get this by installing it on iphone 5s

Any idea?

Turn logging off as @ revanchist suggested. Cydia 1.1.9 just was recently pushed to ios 6.13+ hopefully it will allow the original PlexConnect.bash to run

No luck. Have to still run ./fix on ios 6.1.3+

Myplex isn’t working on ios 6.1.3 yet, im sure I could copy a working myplex signed in copy of plexconnect over but it would be great to not be required to do that. Hopefully the jailbreak dev’s are just still working on ios 6.1.3+ compatibility.

That’s exactly what happened to me! Go into your PlexConnect directory, and edit the settings.cfg file. Set log to “Off” and run it again! Should work perfectly!

Edit: and Wahlman beat me to it. Oh well

@Ivyjones you can edit the settings.cfg from ifile easily or just use sftp after you edited it using filezilla or cyberduck.
