I tested the .plexignore on Synology NAS using . in the file to see if it ignores all the pictures in the directory. After a rescanning several times, it does not eliminate all the pictures from the directory.

Rather than '.' I would try '*' or '*.*'

Sorry, I mistyped. I did use . and even tried *.jpg but no success with ignoring stuff.
I followed the directions provided from the link.
Can you share the actual file you made?
It is actually working. I was editing it on my local PC and it was not syncing properly to the root directory of the photos (darn Synology settings!)
