You're replying to a comment that clarifies why having stuff grouped into Plex is convenient with a suggestion to use an external tool.
I assume the assumption is that those of us requesting this don't already know about the options out there. This assumption is incorrect.
Advantages of using Plex's current library management to comics and ebooks:
1.-Support for "On Deck" for continuing series.
2.-Support for playlists for cross-overs
3.-Support for "transcoding" (in this case, converting from the "native" format into the optimal for the device)
4.-Support for multiple platforms, with ideal controls for each
5.-Support for dynamic, local or online, metadata
6.-On-demand as well as synchronization loading (over wifi and internet)
7.-Friend sharing
8.-Tracking views through plugins (like trakt today, but with comicvine and goodreads)
9.-Server support in a slew of platforms (Comicrack is Windows-only, for example)
This is a pretty far shot since Plex might be angering a whole new industry and that may be a line they don't want to cross.
Some of these you can get by using other tools. You can't get all of these that way, though.
Calibre does all that and more, and the Calibre server runs fine alongside Plex, as I have both running here 24/7/365 for well over a 1.5 years now.
I personally don't see where documents fit into the Plex universe. Seems like a huge waste of programming time to me that's better spent on what Plex already does, and is yet still so feature incomplete for what it already tries to handle.

How do you track which books and comics you have read?
How do you share your library? You need to have your calibre server running and can't change anything to your read status without logging in to your pc...
The benefit of plex would be that you could read all comics and books from within the plex app without having to use an external app

It most definitively does not :)

We have different views and opinions on this, clearly.
I can see advantages for many people for Plex to have the ability to display and serve up written books in all (at least most) of the most common formats but I am old school and really dislike reading for enjoyment on any electronic device. I just feels wrong to me and decreases my enjoyment of the book/story.
But my old eyes are failing, and have been for some time, and if I read for long I get headaches so, since I REALLY enjoy literature, I now do most of my reading via audiobooks and if Plex had the ability to play audiobooks with the ability to bookmark, resume and seek within them it would simplify my reading quite a bit.
Now I use either my computer or my mp3 player for audiobooks but each of those are harder and less convienent to use in my house than Plex on my Roku would be. I have other Plex clients in my home as well but my Roku gets by far the most use.
BTW: For the developers: You probably already know but the latest Roku SDK now allows seeking in Mp3s so the implementation of the seeking and bookmarking in mp3s should now be possible on the Roku.
I use Marvin and Calibre for this, but it would be EXTREMELY awesome if that combo could be replaced by PLEX. with MArvin and Calibre I cant sync reading positions, which get old fast when I want to continue reding on a different device... So
As a Calibre and Plex user I must say it's hard to suggest Plex spent their valuble time reinventing the wheel.
Except Calibre does not place the content on a TV unless you have that TV directly connected to your computer and it does not intergrate directly into a uniform interface that includes videos and music.
It is not reinveting to place content where it is not readily available. At the worst it could be called expanding or enhancing not reinventing.
The same, as far as audiobooks or music goes, could be said when compairing Plex to MediaMonkey but to me it is quite clear that expanding Plex to include much of what MediaMonkey does is not reinventing for the same reasons. Or for that matter the video section of Plex and PVD (Personal Video Database) but I don't hear anyone saying Plex just reinvented PVD.
No probs I literally came by it last night by accident! If it’s a Linux based nas make sure you have permition to run that jar file. Also that java is installed.
U have it running on a ubuntu box and seems to support nas.
Wish it had few more things. Like progress memory so you know what you have read. Also a way to download a whole folder or multi select.
Adding comic and ebook reading to Plex would make the everyday user utilize Plex even more than they do now without the hassle of using another app or server program in lieu of Plex. I love the idea of turning my PC into a centralized media hub for anything and everything that I want (both at home and on the go) with the ease and functionality of Plex, of which I already adore and love. Plex is already leaps and bounds ahead and this is simply adding additional media types to finesse this already great reinvented wheel.
Plex is the all-in-one Digital Media hub we crave! It's got electrolytes!

eBooks are read are tracked in Calibre using the Reading List plugin. There are a multitude of Plugins available for Calibre to extend it's default abilities, much like Plex.
I share the Calibre eBook library with my friends and family members through the use of Calibre built-in server, which I have running side-by-side with Plex for about 1.5 years now. They grab books from it all the time, just as they watch video from my Plex server all the time.
I would never read on TV screen, so I have no need for that function. Nor do I use Calibre's excellent Book Reader, as again, I would never read books on a TV screen or monitor. I do 100% of my eBook reading (which is a couple of hours a day at least) on my Kindle. Been that way since I bought my first Kindle almost 5 years ago now. ;)
Since I installed ubooquity I must say it is a very handy little piece of software, allowing you to add all your calibre libraries on the same page, handling comics as well as ebooks, using your gathered metadata from calibre and allowing you to set who has access to what exactly. It is imho far better than a single library opened with calibre.
It might not be a problem if you have only one library of course but I have one per alpha letter to allow faster handling of my ebooks which I have a ton of...
Of course one can say that the Graphic Interface is with Calibre but the single library publishing is a deal breaker for me.
It would be like Plex allowing only to browse either the movies or the series and from one PMS only.
If only Plex would allow to add the ebooks and comics the same way that ubooquity does, reading the metadata from calibre that would be very handy.
I guess you are asking about ubooquity? The answer is no. Jut like calibre publishing it is a simple website where you can find the media you are looking for and download them or read them online without any ado.
There is no synching or anything either. Just you access, you search what you want or just browse, and download. But you can manage all the other stuff with specialized apps on your devicesonce you have collected the comics you wanted.
