Hi all,
I am currently a proud user of PlexPy. It works a dream and gives me a lot of stats on usage etc. However, I have seen today that there is a similar service called PlexWatch. However, I cannot seem to find out what the difference between the two services are online and wondered if anyone is able to help with this? Is there anything better Plexwatch does that PlexPy does not already do? The interface for both looks near identical.
Many thanks in advance,
Nitesh
Hey,
PlexWatch is a command line utility (a Perl script), it doesn’t have a web front-end built in. For this you have to install a specific front end like PlexWatchWeb.
PlexPy is an all-in-one solution including the front-end web interface.
They both essentially do the same thing, if you want to see the difference why not just try both out?
I found PlexPy way easier to install and configure. I’m not adverse to tinkering with stuff but the process to get PlexWatch to install on Windows looked very long with lots of dependencies. PlexPy was very easy to install and configure and has been rock solid for me.
Many thanks drzoidberg33 and WilhelmStroker. Fantastic answers.
I will likely then just stick with using PlexPy. It took me only a few mins to install and works perfect for my needs so far. If the difference between the two is just minimal then it may not be worth me installing PlexWatch (which from reading around is harder to install than PlexPy).
Many thanks again guys for your great help with this,
Nitesh

It was way too manual for my liking
Funnily enough WilhelmStroker, that is exactly the forum discussion that put me off using PlexWatch. It seemed way to complicated and cumbersome, as compared to PlexPy which took only a few minutes to setup and did not require e.g. database entries to be edited etc.
On a side note WilhelmStroker - have you been a user of Plex for a while? I have only been using it for around 3 months (600 movies and 5 tv shows so far) and cannot fault it. It’s been a pleasure to use.
Since December 2016 and I agree, I cannot fault it either. Works on all my devices and I’ve not had many issues so far. And if I have an issue on one of my devices, the devs are usually quick to respond (Roku, Windows Phone, Windows tablet, Xbox One).
