PlxNative — a native Plex client for LG webOS

Hi everyone,

Some of you may have seen me in the webOS audio-track thread earlier this year. I ended up digging pretty deeply into the LG Plex client while tracking that issue down, and at some point that escalated into writing my own Plex client.

A few months later, that project has turned into PlxNative — an open-source Plex client built specifically for LG webOS TVs.

I also mentioned it recently in the thread about the slow Plex interface on LG TVs, since that was another big reason I kept working on it. At this point I’ve been using PlxNative as my main Plex client for a while, so I figured it was time to give the project a proper thread here.

The UI is written in Rust/OpenGL rather than using a browser-based interface, with a focus on keeping things fast and responsive on LG hardware, including older webOS TVs.

It’s still actively being developed, and there are definitely things left to add and polish, but it’s already what I use for Plex every day.

The app is currently going through LG’s store review, and I have no idea how long that process will take. Until then, it can be installed through LG Developer Mode, or through the webOS Homebrew ecosystem if you already use that.

If you try it, I’d be very interested to hear how it behaves on different LG models and webOS versions. Bug reports and other feedback are very welcome.
