Win7/64bit Ultimate, SP1
CPU: Intel i5-4570
PMP video stutters every 3-4 seconds, but the audio is fine. This happens with all type of media, including streaming TV, 150 mp4 movies, mkv movies, recorded TV.
I noticed that QtWebEngineProcess.exe in the Plex folder was near the top in the task manager when sorted by “CPU Time”. Once I killed the process the video immediately smoothed out. PMP will not start without it, but once PMP is loaded I can kill the process, except I don’t have the Progress Bar and it’s icons.
The movie videos play fine when I use VLC on the same computer.
This problem has been around for more than a year and thru several different PMP and PMS versions.
Please help, this is driving me crazier than I already am !!!
Hi!
Do you have Hardware Decoding on? (What GPU do you have?)
It sounds like your CPU might be too slow or has too many things to do.
VLC nowadays defaults to hardware decoding “on”, so there you can see if the computer would play the file at all. (and could explain why these files just play fine through vlc)
You can see the GPU listed above. I checked in the Intel Graphic Control Panel and did not see a setting for Hardware Decoding. Where would I find this setting ???
I just installed a i5-4570, it replaced an i3-4130T. There was no change. I stopped or uninstalled several programs during the i3 phase and this had no effect. Only stopping QtWebEngineProcess.exe fixed the stutter.
Sorry, I don’t follow your statement quoted above.
I meant to say, that VLC is using the best option for playback by default. When your hardware supports that codec in hardware, VLC takes advantage of it.
Hardware Decoding didn’t fix my problem, but I did find a setting that did! The link you posted was very helpful. I didn’t even realize there were all those settings in TV mode. I just recently stumbled upon this mode of operation in PMP.
Native (OpenGL) on the Main tab fixed my stuttering problem !!!
Thanks so much for your help, it’s greatly appreciated!
