PMS 1.11.x: Transcoding x265 10bit HDR to Apple TV 4K connected to non-HDR TV is not working

Hi all,

I have an issue with PMS version 1.11.0.4633 and .4666 installed on a Synology DS918+:

When I want to watch an x265 encoded movie on my LG Oled NON-HDR TV trough my Apple TV 4K, it’s not working at all.
The screen remains black and the player “jump” to the end of the movie and mark it as “watched”.
For my tests, I used Star Wars 7 (HEVC 1920x800 @23.976 x265 10bits)

  • With PMS version 1.10.1.4602 it’s working fine. Very fast transcoding btw
  • With PMS version 1.11.0.4633 I have the problem explained before
  • With PMS version 1.11.0.4666 I have the problem explained before

I think that the reason of the issue is based on the new feature of 1.11 :
→ (Transcoder) Support HDMI frame rate and dynamic range switching on the Apple TV 4K (#7778)

As additional information:
If I “force” the Apple TV display setting to 1080p HDR, it’s working!
But the quality is very bad! (remind my TV is NOT HDR)
So I have to rollback to 1080p SDR output.

I have reinstalled version 1.10.1.4602 and everything’s fine.

Maybe an option on the PMS to disable the HDR support?
