PMS 1.23.2.4625 Crashing on Media Playback Linux

Server Version#: 1.23.2.4625
Player Version#: Web 4.57.4

Hi Everyone,

I’ve just noticed a few new issues with my PMS setup and was wandering if anyone else was also having issues.

After updating to PMS 1.23.2.4625 whenever I go to play any media my PMS would crash; after doing some digging in options and looking at crash logs looks like Hardware Transcoding was the cause. I’ve since disabled this and I’m now able to get stable playback without crashing.

Has anyone else had similar issues on Linux with the new PMS release?

Additional Details About my Setup
Plex Media Server runs in an LXC container on Proxmox (Guest Operating System is Ubuntu 20.04)
My GPU is a Quadro P400 NVIDIA-SMI 460.39 Driver Version: 460.39 CUDA Version: 11.2

Guess I jumped the gun a bit here and blamed Plex.

After banging my head against a wall for a bit I decided to rebuild and update the nvidia kernel modules for both my host os (Proxmox) and for my Guest (Ubuntu [Where Plex is hosted])

So my driver version is now NVIDIA-SMI 460.80 Driver Version: 460.80 CUDA Version: 11.2

And viola Plex no longer crashes when starting media playback. I’m Assuming that something caused a problem or interference with my cuda or nvidia libraries and Plex doesn’t have a soft fail feature to detect GPU transcode issues like this.

So if anyone else has a similar issue with the new version. Check / Rebuild your nvidia drivers and see if the issue goes away.

Hope this helps anyone else who runs into a issue like this.
