PMS and MacOS - Wake On LAN problem

I am running PMS on a mac mini. The mini is set to sleep after 10 minutes of inactivity. However, if I try to access content from a client (iOS, Chromecast, etc.), the server is not found.

It would be useful if a Wake On LAN feature was added to these clients so that they could remotely wake the server.

Failing that, someone suggested using Fing on iOS to first wake the server. This appears to work, and I would then start a movie. However, it only woke the computer for about 1 minute and would then go back to sleep DESPITE the fact that the server was currently serving content. So the media would then freeze and stall and I would see the Mac Mini’s LED would be pulsating again indicating that it went back to sleep.

Has anyone run into this type of issue and could you recommend a fix? I would like to have the server sleeping at all times except when it’s time to serve content to clients in an effort to reduce electricity use.

Thanks in advance

Evan

I am experiencing exactly the same issues with my PMS (latest version) on a Mac mini:

  1. Plex player (Apple TV, iPad and iPhone) not being able to wake the Mac mini
  2. Plex failing to keep the Mac mini awake while streaming content

With regard to issue #2, in another thread it was concluded that PMS is using a deprecated method to tell MacOS to stay awake: https://forums.plex.tv/t/plex-server-should-keep-mac-awake-after-wake-on-lan/60590/56
