Subject: Android TV Client forces EAC3 transcoding on Sony Bravia 8 II QD-OLED (2025/2026 Model)
Description:
The official Plex app on my Sony Bravia 8 II QD-OLED (2025/2026) is forcing audio transcoding from EAC3 to AAC/PCM, even though the TV hardware natively supports EAC3.
Evidence it’s a profile/client bug:
- The issue only happens on the official Plex Android TV app.
- If I use Kodi + PM4K (PlexMod4Kodi) on the exact same TV, the audio plays perfectly in Direct Play (EAC3).
- The server is on the same local network, no bandwidth limits applied.
