Hi Plex, i really really hope you can help me.
I have an issue for the last couple of weeks (3-4 weeks) going on.
The library/server becomes unreachable every 24 hours for about 30 minutes and recovers itself after 30-35 minutes without any intervention. (and will be offline after 24 hours again for 30 minutes).
The users (local or remote) that are already watching content on the server will not be interrupted. After completing the stream and trying to browser the library with the content they get a “server unavailable” message.
The docker container is still running while the server is unavailable for web/app/mobile clients.
Google chrome gives a “empty response received” error.
While the clients says the server is offline, the server is still writing logs.
According to notifiarr monitoring, the servers did not respond anymore somewhere between Dec 24, 2023 00:00:00 and Dec 24, 2023 00:02:00
I assume this is the time when the server is creating a backup of its database and performs optimizations of it. During this time it is expected to have a short down time.
Depending on the speed of the server and its storage system, as well as the size of the media collection, this time can vary in length.
You should set the server maintenace to a time when regular usage of your server is typically low. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201553286-scheduled-tasks/
When it comes to virtualization, make sure to not restrict the RAM assignment of the container too much. Operations like the above will usually require much more RAM than the average operation of the server. If there is too small a RAM, the container will start swapping like crazy, affecting the performance severely.
Hm, then it sounds unlikely that it actually has something to do with the server maintenance.
Then I am unfortunately out of ideas. Linux or Docker not really ma field of expertise.
This happens to me every night every 24 hours around the same time…it stops working for a while. about 20-30 minutes and even if I close the server and open it, it does not recover. I’ve been like this for a long time. At first I thought it was my PC and bought one 10 times more powerful. still the same. It happens to me exactly like you. I hope the administrators solve this problem
This is still an issue, i switched over the the offical docker container and still be a issue.
I can provide a verbose server log files if that helps with troubleshooting.
Same issue here, I have the linux docker in Unraid, Every night around 8pm the server has networking issues for some time, sometimes 30 minutes, sometimes longer.
In the plex logs I have seen errors like Unable to get public IP address from myPlex and EventSourceClient/… retrying in 15 seconds.
The container comes back up by itself or you can restart it and it will be fine for a short while and then more often than not happens a couple of times.
I don’t have the logs at the moment this has been fairly consistent since christmas. Since then I have both updated Unraid, done an integrity check on my database and done a bunch of other diagnostic work, can’t really seem to find out what the issue is.
A friend of mine is experiencing the issue as well around the same time. I tried setting up an identical docker and they sometimes go down together and sometimes one of them stays up.
