[Background]
I have a large media drive contains over 1M media files. I would like to disable the thumbnails completely on the server because it is a disaster for my SSD, it also takes forever to finish the update. I currently have a video library with content configured as “Other Videos”, and a picture library with library type “Photos”.
[Summary]
In the server settings, I set “Generate video thumbnails” and “Generate chapter thumbnails” under Library Tab to “never”. Then I disabled all the thumbnails for each library.
However, when analyzing the library, the PMS still generate the thumbnails for the pictures and videos. I can see the Thumbnails folder with jpg were created under “Plex Media Server\Media\localhost” and the Plex Media Scanner Analysis log suggests the thumbnail was indeed generated in the process.
[Attempt to Solve]
I tried the method suggested here. After clicking the “Delete Preview Thumbnails” button, the library is rescanned, but actually, no thumbnail was deleted from my disk. Even after deleting all Thumbnail folders using batch, they will come back after next library update operation.
I also tried to remove all the library and created them again with thumbnails disabled. But after the scan process(log scrolling fast with creating lots of things), the PMS continues to analyze and generate thumbnails for them. I have to cancel the scan manually to prevent disk abuse.
It seems that the thumbnail of PMS does not respect my settings at all. What can I do?
