PMS completely ignoring "part 2" of TV shows

Server Version#: 1.24.3.5033 on DSM7
Player Version#: 1.35.1.2632-c6783c78

I’ve been desperately trying to use the naming formats specified on https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/, but no matter how hard I try, PMS is ignoring Part 2 of TV show in ore than one part that I add.

For instance, if I add:
Quotidien - 2021-09-24 - pt1.mp4
Quotidien - 2021-09-24 - pt2.mp4
PMS will show a "Quotidien - 2021-09-24” episode, but it’s only the first part. The second part doesn’t show up at all!

I tried using “part1” instead of “pt1” and other similar tricks, but nothing does it. As far as I can tell though, I’m following the proper naming conventions :-
Am-I missing something or could it be a bug in the current release?

I suppose “the second part not showing up at all” is the intended/expected behavior if you’re stacking files. Plex should show those as a single episode in the respective season, with the duration of both files added up.

Can you verify if both files are associated to that episode if you click :pencil2: > Info for that episode?

@tom80H unfortunately not quite. The expected behaviour would indeed to have it show as one long episode.
Instead, it’s only playing the first part as if I had never uploaded the second part.
The info does show the two files though, as expected, but there is no way to get the second part to play at all :-\

@trumpy81 I’ll try that, but that’s not the proper syntax for multi-part episodes as officially recommended: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/

What’s wrong with the syntax I used?? Incidentally, when using the episode date instead of the season/episode syntax, Plex properly finds all the metadata.

Using the dates always gave me good TvDB matching, but that remains beside the point. I’m not the least bit worried about metadata matching at this point. I could call the shows “the show I want to watch” without any metadata matching. I just want to be able to play the second part of the shows, which does not show up when I use the recommended nomenclature :-\

Exactly!! Which is why I looked up the proper nomenclature and that’s why I was reporting that things weren’t working as they should…
As I replied back to @tom80H earlier in the thread, the two files are indeed listed in the info about the episode, but when comes the time to play, only the first one seems to be taken into account.
It looks to me like the second part is considered as an alternate video instead f being seen as a second part as it should.

Yeah, that’s pretty much what I see and matches my “interpretation” of the problem: The second part is seen as a second version of the video.
It looks like a bug to me :-\

I played some more and got “some” success.
Here’s what I found out:

Quotidien - S06E20 - pt1.mp4
Quotidien - S06E20 - pt2 - Avec Gad Elmaleh et Guy Savoy.mp4

or:

Quotidien - S06E20 - pt1 - Avec Gad Elmaleh et Guy Savoy.mp4
Quotidien - S06E20 - pt2 - Avec Gad Elmaleh et Guy Savoy.mp4

did not work, but

Quotidien - S06E20 - Avec Gad Elmaleh et Guy Savoy - pt1.mp4
Quotidien - S06E20 - Avec Gad Elmaleh et Guy Savoy - pt2.mp4

worked…
It looks like the tag for the parts has to be at the end of the file name for some reason.
