PMS docker(Unraid) is constantly writing to it's docker home library

Server Version#: 1.15.6.1079

It seems to have started after the new update, but not quite sure. I first started to notice after this update anyhow… but currently it’s writing a constant 3mb/s or so… about 150 writes every 3-5 seconds… which lets be honoest… aaaain’t great for keeping SSDs alive.
Automatic library updates is turned off and so is debug logging, it’s constant and not just when a task is running…so is this just a great new “feature” or is the some setting I’m missing?

I’ve poked around on google… and it seems I’m not the only one with the issue recently… and the “fix” was to install an unofficial plex docker… which kinda sucks.

Anybody have information on this? I just installed this official Plex docker container and have the same issue and concerns.

Seeing as this is the official Plex container and the container directs to this forum for support, can we get Plex devs to weigh in on this and provide a response?

It would be great to get a fix for this as it seems unnecessary to constantly be writing. I understand there can be background tasks such as thumbnail generation, logging, etc, but this issue still happens on a brand new install with no libraries added and all the available logging options and such disabled. This has been brought up in the following posts as well with no real solution other than switching to an unofficial Plex container. That certainly doesn’t look good for the Plex team!

Well atleast someone replied! I thought this was just going to get closed and never looked at… but seems I really am not the only one concerned about the issue. Personally I switched to a binhex dock and it’s working fine, got another quirk that bothers me a bit but nothing compared to just watching your SSDs die a quick death, so do switch over if you have not already.
I found the other dockers to have less of an constant write issue(1mb/s at worst) but the binhex one does not seem to have any of those issues.

Just curious…what’s the quirk you have with the binhex docker container?

Sorry for the late reply the reminder email ended in spam…

Anyhow, my main quirk with the binhex docker is the ethernet options, it will only do host(can’t bridge it to what bridge interface i want) which is kinda annoying for me, it’s not a huge issue just a quirk.

Now mind you i’m not super versed in dockers… so I bet you could possible change it, but I wouldn’t know how.

Besides that there just was some setup quirk, so you have to add some custom paths if you want to move your scratch disk and such.
It’s really nothing major and I do recommend switching over if you want to keep your hardware alive a bit longer, I have not tested if the official docker is fixed yet… but until they reply or someone tests it I’m staying with the binhex one.

Thanks for the update @Warpchaser.

So, anyone reading this know how to get Plex devs to weigh in on the issue?

I have noticed the same issue… I recently reinstalled my Plex Media Server and noticed this happening, it was a fresh install and now i notice constant writes… I first thought it was another plex container but turned them off one by one… when only Plex container runs the writes are still there and with plex turned off there is no writes (4MB per 10 minutes) With plex running there is around 1500 MB/ 10 minutes… Or 9000 MB/ hour or 210 GB / day… That is massive amounts of writes… The process it writes to that i observed in iotop is called [loop2] …

To update on my issue… I tried a lot of things… Tried disabling everything i can think of in the settings… Did not help. In the end i got tired of waiting for plex.tv to fix the issues… I tried the Linuxserver.io Plex docker (linuxserver/plex) instead that solved my issue! I used the same appdata folder to keep all my settings and view progress. No more constant writes!
