Logs attached. As soon as I try to play content remotely it spins until I do direct play. If I keep waiting while trying to transcode an error will be thrown “There was an unexpected error during playback. Please visit our forums if you continue to experience problems.”
Locally I can do direct play or transcode.
Not sure if Nvidia HW transcoding ever worked for snap. The message needs to be updated you actually need newer Nvidia drivers than 418.

Okay so I ran the command and there were quite a few items that updated, but I’m still having trouble with transcoding (this just started over the last day when I got the snap update).
I’ve never had this issue with this server that I’ve had up and running for many years.
Unfortunately you have just applied 5 months worth of updates with all the problems that came with them. Lets set the HW transcoding aside and focus on the cert, be sure the system time is correct and restart the whole server.
It’s a 3 day weekend so Plex support will be light.
I haven’t updated from 18.04 and I have been thinking about it for a while… That being said, the system time is correct and I have restarted, same issue.
I did however find that it looks like the system is trying to use NVENC so I hopped into Software and Updates and updated my driver from 390 to 460
You could remove and reinstall the snap package to see if it corrects those permission problems.
Were you using a custom cert?
I’ll be honest I have no idea what you’re talking about lol. A little above my knowledge. I will say that disabling hardware encoding and letting Plex use my CPU for encoding got me working at the moment. But I’d like to get NVENC working again.
Okay last update for anyone else having this issue. The latest update seemed to require a newer nvidia driver for my system. I had to lookup instructions for updating drivers on my system. Once I updated and rebooted, transcoding began working again. I wish Plex had a server warning popup of some sort that looked to see that my drivers were out of date due to their new requirement.
