PMS now requires systemd?

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488

When I logged into my Plex Server this morning, I received the message that there was an update available. I downloaded the update file (plexmediaserver-1.15.1.791-8bec0f76c.x86_64.rpm) added it to my respository, opened Synaptic and attempted to perform the update. Received the message that systemd was required and the update was aborted. Is this the end of updates for non-systemd systems?

Yes, sadly so

It is not a question of init vs upstart vs systemd.

it is , however, glibc version.
glibc 2.14.1 is required. the bump was unavoidable.

I am working to resolve the init/upstart/systemd once and for all for everyone.

Is there a way to tell which system I’m running? I have a 3 month old WD PR2100 NAS and need to think about replacing it if it’s going to stop receiving updates.

I did a Google search and fine all kinds of answers, but nothing helps. Some sites say it runs a flavor of Debian, some sites have ā€œhow to’sā€ on installing Debian, some times say that systemd is on Debian (running ā€œjessieā€ and above), BUT if PID 1 is ā€œinitā€ does that mean it uses ā€œupstartā€?

New to linux, learning as I go and every time I find an answer, I find 2 more stating the opposite. LOL

WD PR2100 is a NAS product. This thread relates to Linux desktop & server systems.

Plex sends updates to WD to put in their app store. When WD approves them is when you see the updates.

Thanks, I hope you can find a solution that doesn’t require glibc 2.14.1.
Sincerely appreciate your efforts.

There is no way to get around glibc version 2.14.1
In order to implement the technologies we needed, the update was required.

Glibc 2.14.1 was released 07-Oct-2011. Updating to 2.14.1 is not ā€˜cutting edge’

Even NAS vendors are 2.17 or better.

Most desktops use 2.24 (04-Aug-2016) through 2.28 (01-Aug-2018)

You need to upgrade your distribution to a more recent version.

hmmmm - is the glibc library or systemd that is the impact? My
system is using glibc 2.26.3 but is the lack of systemd that is
killing the install.

Which distro and version are you using?

I am using PCLinuxOS64 kernel 4.20.17

Not a supported Linux distro. Sorry.
