As stated I have PMS running on QNAP TS-831X.
Everything is hardwired all the way through from PMS to players via gigabit switches. I have 100mb Fios up and Down. I’m experiencing buffering issues only via Plex on Roku.
I’ve tested it on the following devices via WiFi and Ethernet and I’ve had no buffering issues.
PC-Chrome
Mac- Safari
Xbox-Plex
iOS - Plex app over WiFi
PC - Chrome (Remotely over Ethernet)
So clearly I’ve isolated the issue to the Plex app on Roku.
Prior to switching to QNAP I was running PMS on a IMac Pro using Drobo 5D and I had no issues.
The iMac had a lot more CPU power than the ARM cpu in the TS-831x ( Annapurna Labs Alpine AL-314 Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A15 processor)
Your DEBUG (not VERBOSE) logs of a playback session start (first 30 seconds) will confirm if this is the problem. Most problems occur when subtitles are involved.
Also, you need know what the playback settings of the remote player are. Are they burning-in subtitles ?
I don’t have subtitles enabled. I realize that my iMac had a faster proc however my iPhone 7 Plus connected over LTE remotely has no buffer issues. That’s why I think it’s directly related to Roku Plex app. I just messed around with some settings. Enabled Force Direct Play and disabled security and I think that seems to have done it. But I will test with some 1080p and 4K content and report back.
