Can confirm this now working for my users both inside my local network and external. As different content is watched I see the codecs appearing in the codec folder.
Will update the thread if i encounter any additional issues.
Newest PMS client running on windows 11.
For MacOS users: you have to use āGo to Folderā in order to find the Codec folder
~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server
and then follow the other steps from above
@ronald6636 youāll need to provide your PMS logs.
I donāt see anything glaringly obvious here to suggest what the issue is. I would say that itās likely no longer relevant to the issue of this thread. Might be best to move into a new thread.
Hi, on my Linux NAS, everything works (no error downloading codecs) but I get black screens on movies encoded in hevc.
@simon2 You need to provide PMS logs. If the codecs are downloading then this might not be relevant to this threadās issue. Please provide logs and a bit more details, what client, video details, etc.
Correct. As mentioned in the support document I linked.
Sorry but where do I get the logs in MacOS please?
Iāve deleted the Codecs folder and also the latest update and tried running the previous update; but still no-go.
Thanks much. Here are my logs.
Interestingly, I can still view my videos on my old Android device but not the web client on my Windows laptop.
Iām also still experiencing this issue. With Version 1.41.3.9314 the codecs download fine but after updating to 1.41.4.9463 it returns. Iām on a Mac and tried deleting/renaming the Codecs folder to no avail.
I attach my logs.

Would you mind resposting in the Mac section of the forum?
Your in the NAS ā Synology section.
MacOS is like Linux but not enough that we can be of help here.
Sure, I will repost there now. Thanks.
Still hitting the issue here. Unraid 7.0.0, PMS version, 1.41.4.9463-1-01. Just updated today. Codecs no longer downloads. Tried renaming to Codecs_old. Recreates Codec directory but remains empty. Only empty file and device id.

I checked your logs. You arenāt being throttled by Plex.tv
The server shows as claimed
ā Server name āPlexiā
ā Last seen ~30 minutes ago
ā Remote Access not enabled.
If this is incorrect, please let me know.
Start tracing how this works at the filesystem level.
Therefore,
Best to open a shell window and drill down to where the files reside.
Make certain permissions are writeable at the āPlex Media Serverā directory level in the filesytem
Look to see if there are any junk / partial files from previous failed download (previous codec files still compressed should be removed)
Have you tried to Scan Files (which will force the decoders to be downloaded) ?
That is correct.
Iāve restarted the container a few times to test fixes.
Itās definitely writable I can see it writing some files but missing most decoders.
After scanning I can see EAE now:
But trying to play a HEVC file fails.
āConversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install.ā
The GET request gives this:
Not really sure how to roll back the plex docker version to a usable one.
Happy for any work arounds to get this working?
Thanks for your help!
I think Iām having the same issue as everyone else. My
AS5404T wonāt play in browser or some client apps. The problem appeared about 4 days ago, since then Iāve deleted my server and folders and restarted a fresh install of PMS also deleted the codecs folder and restarted with no joy. Iāve included my logs in the hope someone can find the problem. Thanks for your help.

Just chiming in that this seems to still be an issue, at least for some codecs.
Have tried stopping the server to clear the codecs and rebooting, and still getting Download failed: Failed to verify SHA1sum of codec!

I canāt believe this is still an issue, even under what seems to be the full weight of Plex developers on it. It must be a pretty serious problem. Or is it because theyāre developing a permanent fix, and thatās the part thatās taking a long time?
Itās for this reason that I have to keep reminding myself, however tempting it is, not to update to the latest version ![]()
