PMS using MediaSDK or OneAPI? Hardware transcoding failing anyone get 13th gen working

Having a heck of a time getting hardware transcoding working correctly. I’m starting to think maybe its the plex server software that need to be update?

I am running windows 10. intel 13900 CPU with U770 Graphics. If I click on a 4k video to stream to my phone I get audio no video. If I go in and manually change the stream quality to something other then auto I will get audio and video except its software transcode.

Just wondering if maybe plex server needs to be updated to support the latest gen CPU’s? I know intel changed from mediaSDK to oneAPI. Not sure if that is playing a part here. Has anyone got hardware transcode working with latest gen intel CPU/GPU?

If your 4K video has HDR, it can’t hardware transcode with Windows. Windows is unable to hardware tonemap with iGPU:

If you want to use Windows, you need an Nvidia GPU to transcode 4K HDR. You could also turn off HDR Tone Mapping but then your colors will look bland.

Your other option is to switch to Linux.

Doesnt work under linux either. Under linux system stays up about 3 hours then crashes. Good to know about windows though. I tried ubuntu with plex worked great for 3 hrs then consistent crashes.

It would appear there are pitfialls with just about every direction you choose with plex. Any chance of them fixing the tone mapping issue under windows anytime in the near furture. That seems like a pretty big one to leave out.

Wonder if I can run linux in a docker container under windows to solve this. Might be worth trying.

No one knows if or when Plex will enable tone mapping with iGPU on Windows.

Attach your Plex logs under Linux and a Plex employee may be able to assist you:

I think I’ve seen a few people getting it to work with docker in Windows so you can give it a try.

Got plex installed under docker using Docker

Got docker container started using

Once container is started I can open a shell type:

I can see the video driver but plex still does not use it. Stumped at this point. I installed the linux drivers for the video card. Still can not get plex to HW transcode. It always wants to SW transcode. I am pointing to a 4k dolby vision video. I was able to transcode this with HW under linux. But stuck with the windows->docker->llinux

I can see it try and load nvidia drivers but seems to skip over testing for intel
