PMS v1.18.1.2019 crashed 2 times in 3 days. Win10 - 503 Service Unavailable

I’m using the most recent server beta and I’m still experiencing the issue, so that probably won’t make a difference. Up to this point the development team hasn’t had any information to work with so I imagine it will take them some time to track down and provide a fix for the bug.

@JustinEhler do you have a view as to which version this issue came in at?

I know you address the question to Justin, but it started with 2019 the version prior to that did not have the issue.

For anyone else, please let me have logs and if there a lockout for long time, to get the /connections list and dmp file as per instructions for deadlocks in the linked post in my earlier post above PMS v1.18.1.2019 crashed 2 times in 3 days. Win10

For logs, debug logging needs to be enabled beforehand and preferably before the server is launched last

I can only use that information if I see evidence of having the same issue. I can mention that it is thought it started then - but until I see logs / dmp, I cannot say it is the same issue

I can send logs if it happens again, currently I’m on beta for 24 hours and it hasn’t happened. I remember one of the members in Plex a holic’s a Facebook group chat figured out that it was an issue with music. I have since removed music and it hasn’t happened on beta. Can anybody else confirm if they have music in their Library?

Thank you for exploring that - also to see if possible to isolate music scanning vs music playback

The person that started this chat definitely does have music looking at the pictures he uploaded. I can try to isolate it if it happens again.

The issue has been around since at least the 2019 build, but I think it actually started on 1973. Also, just an FYI that I am a heavy user of music (usually listening on 2-3 devices throughout the day with a library over 100k tracks) since it sounds like that might be relevant.

i havent had the same issue on the later versions of PMS so far

i thought it was interesting re the music scanning, i did actually delete my music from PMS not longer after i had this due to other issues on android,

perhaps this is why it has not re-occured (or may be not related at all - just throwing it out there)

I can confirm I no longer have the issue!! Been running Plex for now 48 hours with no music in my library and no more crashes. It seems to be something to do with music scanning.

I am still crashing. Seems to be be worse with Version 1.18.3.2111. Logs attachedPlex Media Server Logs_2019-12-10_17-27-05.zip (1.4 MB) .

Can you look for dmp files in this directory

P:\Plex Media Server\Plex Media Server\Crash Reports\1.18.3.2111-5a96726d0\PLEX MEDIA SERVER

Zip all that you can find and send me by Private message

Also can you check the version of the intel GPU driver - see matrix here for versions that have been found to crash Plex Media Server

Hey, just wondering if there’s any update on this. I’ve since upgraded to the latest beta (1.18.3.2129) and the server is still hanging at least as often, if not more often than before.

I am having the same problem won’t stay upPlex Media Server Logs_2019-12-14_20-41-22.zip (4.6 MB)

With any luck this has been fixed in the most recent beta (1.18.4.2153) - see the release notes:

ITEMS FIXED:

  • (DVR) Programs listed under “Recommended” Hub would not sort by airing start datetime (#10554).

  • (EPG) Allow filtering of EPG data by content rating.

  • (Library) Fix manual searches for old music album agents.

  • (Library) Huge speedup to history view in dashboard.

  • (Library) Read MusicBrainz tags from files to help match the correct release.

  • (Library) Stop showing recommendations from shared libraries which don’t exist anymore.

  • (Library) Use track filenames as last-ditch track titles. (#10740)

  • (Music) Read track artist tags in more cases.

  • (PMS) Server would sometimes return HTTP 404 when scanner was traversing folders. (#10800)

  • (Transcoder) The server could crash when attempting hardware transcodes on certain Windows systems (#10736)

So since upgrading to the 1.18.4.2153 release I’ve had way fewer instances of this happening, but the server still seems to hang on occasion while scanning. I’m now running 1.18.4.2171, just wondering if this issue is persisting for anyone else. I’ll grab another log and process dump the next time I notice it.

Hi again @sa2000, I’m still getting similar issues on 1.18.4.2171 - perhaps I was wrong and this wasn’t actually fixed by one of the recent releases?

I’ve PM’d you with another set of logs, plus a crash dump and a copy of my connections list produced while experiencing the issues with the 2171 build.

very disappointing i had this happen again while i was travelling overseas causing alot of downtime for my friends and family while i was flying.

same problem as i listed in original post, DMP file and logs attached

There is a fix in the pipeline that will come out that is aimed to address the symptoms seen in the logs and dumps you provided.
