PMS Windows Minimal Backup Question

Server Version#: 1.40.2.8395
Player Version#: N/A

I’m trying to ensure that my PMS is backed up to a degree that I can restore “most” of Plex but I’m hoping to NOT need to backup the PMS data folder. I’m very familiar with how to move Plex by backing up the registry and the data folder. What I’m wondering is what would happen if I only backup the database and the registry. I don’t really care about the metadata because I “think” it would get rebuilt eventually on it’s own. I don’t really care that much about my custom metadata.

So, let’s say my PMS system drive crashes and I rebuild a fresh version of Windows and fresh install of PMS. If you restore the database that was backed up using PMS and I restore the registry that I backup daily using the REG EXPORT command, would that be sufficient to maintain general settings? Do I “need” the data folder if I don’t care much about metadata, or am I going to miss something there that I can’t live without?

You can rebuild everything if you have the database files.

You can do this. One thing. If you’ve uploaded any of your own art, you’ll be missing that, and a refresh metadata won’t fix it. The DB will “keep” the custom art preference and won’t automatically switch from it.

Otherwise you can refresh and everything will redownload.
