since bitlocker/UEFI changed my drive letter where plex is installed, just opening the plex server.exe results in not showing my media folders on plex.
how can I make the drive letter change in registry for plex? media is still all in the old place, it is just plex installation not finding my setup after changing plex installation from D: to K:
Please define what you mean when you say “Plex installation”.
Are you referring to the Plex program files and executables? These should always be located at their default location under C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server
This can be changed by uninstalling Plex server (using the dewfault Windows ‘Apps’ control panel), followed by a fresh installation with location set to default.
This folder doesn’t hold any information about you, nor your media collection.
windows changed my plex installation drive letter from D to K and forces me to stick with it. when I open plex now it does not show my media and config. how can I change plex to see the new drive letter? in regestry maybe? I am afraid that uninstalling makes it even worse.
I am a bit confused. Are you saying that your Windows system drive used to be D: before?
Or did you change the location of the Plex data folder already some time ago?
Either way, changing all references from D: to K: in the Registry should make it work again.
Once you have it running again, set the startup mode of the “Plex Updater service” to “Automatic delayed”. This will improve reliability of automatic updates.
it works again, thanks for helping me out. windows changed the drive letter on its own from D to K. and plex was on D before.
one thing to add to the tutorial you linked is that all media libraries are gone for the friends after this. so you have to share them again afterwards.
where to change the startup mode of the “Plex Updater service” to “Automatic delayed ”?
