I’ve been having a few issues with my server so I decided to cut my losses and start from scratch
I’ve removed plex entries from the registry, deleted the plex media server folder from my D drive and uninstalled.my issue is that I want to install to my F drive now. I select that during install, it installs to my F drive and as soon as the server application starts up it all gets recreated on my D drive. What. I missing?
Don’t do that. It only changes the location of the server program files (which you should keep on drive C:)
Uninstall, then re-install to the default location for program files on C:
To relocate the Plex data folder, you need to change a key in the Windows registry.
See this post for details (make sure to heed the caveats): [HowTo] An extended guide on how to move the Plex data folder on Windows
thanks, that’s where I had started when the install was on D:. After entering the new registry entry to point at F and starting the server again I could still see the logs were writing to D. That’s why I gave up and tried to completely uninstall. Why, if it should be going to C by default does it keep springing up on D:? Is there some setting hanging around from an old install?
Take a look at the “Addendum” part of the linked article.
that doesn’t help. If I’ve deleted all registry entries for Plex then that’ll include anything for the update service.
After many years, I’m done with Plex. There’s one option on install, to select install directory and it shouldn’t be used! It gets progressively less reliable with every release and pointless new features that no one requests or wants set themselves as default confusing users.
The registry keys for the service are in a different user branch of the registry than those for the server. And to change this part of the registry, one requires administrator privileges. So, I recommend double-checking.
